New York Yankees (David Wells) at Boston Red Sox (Derek Lowe).

Both teams had chances to score a bunch of runs in Game 4: the Red Sox ran themselves out of an inning again and the Yankees left the bases loaded twice (I believe).

I think we'll have a higher scoring affair today. David Wells will keep the ball away from the righthanders - will they try to pull the ball anyway? Derek Lowe will need his defence to be rock solid.

I agree that we'll have a higher scoring affair today. Fenway Park is favorable to a long-sequence offence, as well as the 3 run homer. Wells strikes out less than 5 per game, walks less than 1 per game, and doesn't have much of a defence behind him. What's the over/under on the number of Sox hits today? I'd say 12.

I'm past-posting by the leadoff batter but I'd take the under. I think Wells will come up with a good showing, even at Fenway. I predict 3-2 Boston again, then the Yanks win Pettite's start and it's Pedro v Roger part 2, in Yankee stadium. How sweet would that be. I might even have to skip Survivor to watch that!

Just at work, so, am not seeing who is doing what, other than on blogs and CBSSportsline. But what is up with Nomar? As one who thinks Jeter is over-rated, I am beginning to wonder if I should change my thinking. He ends an inning with two guys in scoring position, but, Jeter's batting .333 this series, he's been a rock during Saturdays game, and, guess which average is Nomar's in this Boston batting order: .310, .267, .211, .289? And Nomar doesn't even walk!! This was a time for No-mah to show the world that Jeter simply happened to be on the right team at the right time, but, can you vot Nomar for the Hall so far on his end results?

Correction about Nomar: the .211 must be his post-season average. His OPS in th LCS is .238 - - two times .118, his average; no walks, 5 k's.

Nomah is in a bit of a slump, to be sure, but his previous postseason playoff performances have been excellent, .383 with an OPS of near 1400 in 53 ABs. His regular season numbers are better than Jeter's and he's a better fielder. I don't see there being much doubt that he'll make the Hall given his current numbers (barring a massive collpase). 40-odd playoff at bats in one year doesn't change things. He's already at 103 on the Hall of Fame Monitor, despite having only played six full seasons.

Thanks for the update, Mark. I guess I tried to forget what he did to Cleveland in the past!

I've read the Sox are going to bring Pedro back on short rest for Game 6 if they lose today. As a Yankee fan, I am a huge proponent of that thinking.

However, the way Wakefield is pitching, I'd hate to see him start a Game 7, if it gets that far.

I know Wakefield is a knuckleballer, but can he really go on TWO days' rest?
Coach - Wednesday, October 15 2003 @ 12:26 AM EDT (#88385) #
Wakefield can go on ONE day's rest, Mike. If Grady does start Burkett, I won't be surprised if Wakefield gets up at the first sign of trouble. Is anyone sure that Pedro wants the ball tomorrow?
