On Tuesday, April 6 (vs. the Detroit Tigers) and Tuesday, April 20 (vs. the Boston Red Sox), all our Batter's Box readers are invited to attend the Blue Jays game courtesy of Batter's Box. That's right, tickets are FREE - it's on us. All you need to do, is tell us you are coming by posting in this thread, and whether you will be bringing a guest.

The first 20 tickets are free on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don't want us to pay your way, but you want to come to the game, tickets will cost $2. So even if you don't get a freebie, it should be easy (and cheap) for you to come down to the park and join us, we'll even book your tickets with our group so you can sit with us. Again, just post in the thread.

We will be sitting near the Blue Jays Cheer Club and will have a terrific time. For those of you who already have tickets, we'll let you know where we'll be sitting so you can drop by and say hello.

When you post your desire to come to the game, please leave your e-mail, or else send your e-mail to craig@battersbox.ca so I can get in touch with you if need be. Also, let us know if you want to come to the April 6 game (that's this coming Tuesday), the April 20 game, or both games. We'll send out a reminder on the April 20 game in about two weeks.

We will meet in front of SkyDome at a designated location before the game.

See you at the park!

Needless to say, I will be there for both games, and will be bringing a guest both times.

(By the way, both games are 7:05 starts and we will aim to meet at 6:45.)

I will be at both games. If it's free, that $2 I can put towards a foamy spoonful of bear. I'll be there either way.

Oops, that doesn't sound too refreshing.

Damn, that game on the 6th is tempting, but I won't be able to get out of work early enough to get up to Toronto.

The 20th should be no problem, but I'll wait and see what happens around the office.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, come for the 4th or 5th inning. Surely you can leave by 6:00?

Probably.. not 100% sure. I'm giving a seminar on "The History of Operations Research Up To 1965", and I don't know how long it will take for my audience to fall asleep so I can sneak out. :)

Cheers,

Mike

Too bad I don't live in TO, otherwise I'd be there for sure.

$2 tickets? Are you sitting near the roof, or are the Jays that desperate for butts in the seats?
_Paul D - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 03:15 PM EST (#74130) #
Wow, this is fantastic.
I'll make the short trek from Mississauga for the April 20th game, and I'll be bringing a friend.

Thanks to the Box for this, and all its other great work.

COMN for email.

Mike, why don't you just haul your seminar audience up to the game for two bucks a pop? You could rent a bus and do the lecture over the P.A. on the way.

Hahahaha.. Why don't I just do it on the Jumbotron at the Dome? Couldn't be any worse than some of the pre-game stuff they normally have.

Cheers,

Mike

"As for methods of analysis, the group deployed standard statistical approaches - `analysis of variance, regression, probability theory, etc.’, as well as the Monte Carlo method for assessing the most economic length of production runs. By the early 1960s, the group was utilising critical path analysis to help improve the physical characteristics of the products emanating from the viscose division, and towards the end of the decade work had begun on computer simulations."

I'm going to the April 5th and April 21st games already. How eerie.

Put me down for the Sox game + guest. And we'll kick in the money for sure. I read this site so much without adding anything, so free tickets feels like stealing.

I'll be there in -- ugh -- spirit.

Anybody want to organize a summer road trip to Seattle to see the Jays? Safeco is a great venue, and we'll make room at my little place for as many as we can, even if it means shoving the wife and, depending on when the Jays are in town, possibly the baby to a hotel. :)
_Oshawa - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 05:58 PM EST (#74150) #
I'm in for both games (if allowed)... I have a new article by the way at The Sil (http://sil.mcmaster.ca/sports/040104jays.html)

I do want to emphasize that I am a Jays fan and want nothing more than for them to be successful, but I am (like many others, I presume) growing tired of the increasing disparity in MLB between those who spend, and those who do not.
Named For Hank - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 06:06 PM EST (#74151) #
We're going to be wherever the heck you are. Where does the Cheer Club sit this year?

I hadn't thought about that yet. ;)

Why don't we try to take over a 500 level section right behind the plate? 524 or so?
_WillRain - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 08:00 PM EST (#74152) #
Sure I'll be there!!

No...wait...I live in Mississippi...so...uhm...nevermind.

_A - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 08:05 PM EST (#74153) #
Safeco is a great venue
The year Safeco openned I was out west with my family (early teens, I suppose) and I'd convinced them that we *had* to go see a game in Seatle (got them to do Oakland as well but San Fran wasn't in town) but when we got there we couldn't get a ticket. Apparently it was the second game after the first month of the season that had sold out...the kicker was it was the ChiSox that sparked the sell out. What gives?

And unfortunatly I'll have to add my regrets, the games scheduled are just before and just after I'm in Toronto.
_StephenT - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 09:28 PM EST (#74154) #
I won't be there, but I'm curious what they charge for the $2 tickets. $5.25? (including "convenience fee").
Joe - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 10:46 PM EST (#74155) #
http://me.woot.net
This morning, before I went to work, I tried to order two tickets for Wednesday's game (i.e., regular $9 seats) on the Jays website. The convenience fee for these tickets was $6, but that wasn't exorbitant so I kept on trucking. However, I drew the line at the $4 they wanted to charge me for going to Skydome to pick up the tickets. They would have cost me $28.

Instead, I stopped the transaction, walked to Skydome on my way to work and bought the same tickets (seat, row, everything) for $20.50.

To sum it up: Internet sales are a scam. $10 in fees on $18 tickets, or a 55.5% 'MLB.com tax.' I'd much rather pay only the $2.50, or 13.8%, 'Skydome tax,' particularly when it would involve the same amount of work done by me.
Craig B - Friday, April 02 2004 @ 11:59 PM EST (#74156) #
Group tickets are purchased through the group hotline and the service charges are very low. I did this last year for our Batter's Box outing and was extremely pleased with their service.

I second Joe on the scam that is the online ordering "service". You're much better off to pick up the phone and call, or head down to the park!
_Paul S - Saturday, April 03 2004 @ 03:20 AM EST (#74157) #
Yo! Robar! Hopefully I meet you at the game. Between here and Delphi (and my Yahoo beisbol league, and the hockey leagues we've both been in) it's about time we meet.

I need to meet the rest of you too, if only to get over my shyness and aversion to posting.
Craig B - Saturday, April 03 2004 @ 09:51 AM EST (#74158) #
Superdevin, I can have a ticket left for you at Will Call if you like. Alternatively, tickets where we are sitting are $2 so you can buy one and find us, we'll be dead easy to find and I'll be giving out the section and row(s) anyway!

And "Oshawa"... I actually get the Sil at home now, we moved to withing steps of the campus last month. So I'll get to read your stuff all the time.

OK, so we have for the Tigers game on Tuesday:

Craig B + possible guest
alsiem
Matthew E + guest
Named For Hank (has ticket)
Jason Robar + guest
Coach (has ticket)
Robert Dudek (has ticket)
gid
Gitz's tortured soul (has ticket to ride)
Oshawa

So only nine so far for Tuesday. Please, lurkers, come out - we want to meet you! If you absolutely can't post to the forum, e-mail me to accept.

And for the Sox game on the 20th:

Craig B + possible guest
alsiem
Moffatt (& hopefully guest?)
Paul D + guest
Paul S + guest
Matthew E + guest
Named For Hank (no ticket necessary, I believe he lives at the Dome)
Jason Robar + guest
Coach (has ticket)
Oshawa

Thirteen so far for the Sox. Keep those acceptances coming...

I second the idea of a charity - $2 tickets are stoopid cheap!

Oh - I'm planning to walk-up to the home opener Monday: any suggestions? I need a single, and I'd like a decent seat - should I go scalper or box office?

I did it. My hair is blue.

Not blue like last year, when I did royal blue -- I vowed that I would never again bleach my hair, because 1) it hurts, and 2) after it started to wash out, I looked like an old lady.

No, this year I went back to that old stalwart, L'Oreal's Deepest Indigo.
