Another week, another homestand...but what's that I hear? Could it be the triumphant return of the O-Drum?

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Bird Droppings, faithful poster and honorary Captain of the Cheer Club All-Stars, has confirmed that he and the mighty O-Drum will be in attendance this Wednesday. That's tomorrow.

So with the rotation all in a crazy order now, I have no idea when Doc is starting next. The Rx Ks are ready, and Jobu is working on Wunderbat to get those scrubs for us. Meanwhile, Batista and Bush need Ks. Mrs. Hanks suggested a Spy vs. Spy motif for Speier's K, if anyone comes across a good image.

My attendance tonight is weather-dependant: if the rain holds off, I'll be going to see the team my wife coaches. If the weather stinks, I'll be at the Dome.

Requests for a Delgado sign? I like WELCOME BACK, BIG GUY or something like that. Any thoughts?

"Welcome Back, Big Guy" sounds good to me!

'The Return of the King'

Heh, I like that one.

"Return of the King"... simply fantastic. Maybe a picture of his classic smile at the end of the sign so people know what we're talking about and dont just think some LOTR fans kicked out the Cheer Club from 518.

Yahoo sports lists Doc's next start as Friday against Colon and the Angels. That gives us some time to get signage made and too convince Wunderbat to let us use his magical closet of scrubs. Here's his email to send any pleading, groveling requests for scrubs "the_rickbottom@hotmail.com".

Idea's for signs anyone? Perhaps "Doc's Interns" or "The Doctor's Viewing Gallery". Drums and scrubs could be a wonderful mix....

I'll be trying for tonights game but the forcast does not look good. But I'll see you all Wednesday (Towers vs Blackley)

I liked BD's suggestion of INFIRMARY.

Maybe the Return of the King sign just needs a big #25 on it?

Mrs. Hank suggests Delgado wearing a crown.

I'm off to find a picture of Carlos. Post any good ones you find, in case yours are better than what I find.

How about this one?

_Rob - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 03:32 PM EDT (#53003) #
How about this (too big to post here)...

or this?
Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 03:36 PM EDT (#53004) #
The second one is way too small, but the first one is good. Let me see what I can do.
_Ryan Lind - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 03:39 PM EDT (#53005) #
Ohh, if only they were both returning...

_Jobu - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 03:51 PM EDT (#53006) #
here's some various pictures I rounded up quickly showing the many moods of Carlos. Do with them what you will.

_Andrew K - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:02 PM EDT (#53007) #
I really wish I was in Toronto and could come to the game :( Life sucks in the UK right now. I really enjoyed the two games I caught at the end of May.

Since we're now in the University vacation I could even take time off for it. If only I had spare cash, I'd hop on a plane and see you tomorrow evening. I only live 40 minutes from Heathrow.

Anyone wanna wire me £300 or so? You really need a trained percussionist for that O-Drum you know and I do make a speciality of hitting big drums hard.

Have a great time guys and shout something witty from me.
_Jobu - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:04 PM EDT (#53008) #
Some random thoughts:

I liked BD's suggestion of INFIRMARY.
I like the sound of Doc's Infirmary, but then it sounds like we're the ones who got struck out but we're in scrubs...

The 2nd photo I posted looks more deserving of a Halo than a crown...
The 1st photo screams for the caption "what you talkin 'bout ump?"
The 3rd photo... well im not going there, make your own jokes.

Odd question of the day:
Did Carlos always have such perfect teeth? I mean, wow. Even Rick "Wunderbat" the dentist's kid is impressed.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:18 PM EDT (#53009) #
Well, I found a picture of his rookie card, and his teeth are perfect on it.

Okay, I have photoshopped him a crown. Gimme fifteen minutes and I'll put up a demo version for everyone to see.

I like the ones where he has a "proper" Blue Jays uniform on!
Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:47 PM EDT (#53011) #
The sign is taking longer than expected because I can't stop laughing.

Sadly, I won't be there tonight, but I'll be there to unfurl it tomorrow, late as usual. If someone gets there early, save me a spot at the front!
_Jobu - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:52 PM EDT (#53012) #
NFH: Would this clever sign of yours be visible to Carlos from field level? And which photo did you wind up using?
Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 04:58 PM EDT (#53013) #
I don't know how readable it would be on the field. I'd hope it would be, but the biggest I can print is 24x80 inches.

I ended up using a big headshot I found with Google image search. I'll have it ready to post in just a moment.

Yeah, that's why it was so hard to finish. Literally, I'd be working on it and then dissolve into a fit of giggles.

A friend of mine suggests the tagline "One swing to rule them all".
_Jobu - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 05:43 PM EDT (#53018) #
One swing to rule them all

if only we had a way to digitaly replace a pic of him swinging a bat, to a sword and add the catch phrase
_Ryan Lind - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 05:43 PM EDT (#53019) #
Hahaha, great banner.

NFH, I was just going to suggest something about using "swing" instead of "ring," heh. "The Lord of the Swings" sounds too cheesy. "One swing to rule them all" is great, though.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 05:45 PM EDT (#53020) #
Oh, I could do it, Jobu -- but adding things like the sword and the tagline will make it unreadable. It's almost too much as it is right now.
_Ryan Lind - Tuesday, July 06 2004 @ 05:46 PM EDT (#53021) #

Jesus... Colome. Awesome banner! I almost died laughing. Now if only we could get one swing to BRING them all, we'd be set.

Couldn't make it tonight. I'll be in da Club Thursday fo' sho', but I have Rich People Seats for tomorrow's game down in 122. I might drop in sometime tomorrow to meet the banner, and witness the triumphant return of the drum.

I've been a bit under the weather lately, and don't expect to be there until the weekend. I do want to remind everyone that we have a block of seats in 517 for Saturday's 4:00 game, which should be Lilly-vs.-Escobar. Even if you can't make it to the luncheon and book signing with Rob Bradford, join us for the game. E-mail me for $8 tickets.

Alright, who's coming out tonight besides me and BD?
_Jobu - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 01:34 PM EDT (#53025) #
My loser friend (Wunderbat) and I shall be there. You can grill him for scrubs in person!

Any Tower-K's to be there? Maybe just a shot of the CN Tower, inspire some civic pride.
_Brent - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 01:51 PM EDT (#53026) #
I'll be there.
Named For Hank - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 01:58 PM EDT (#53027) #
I'd make Tower Ks, but I'm coming late.

Who's pitching tomorrow?
_Jobu - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 03:26 PM EDT (#53028) #
Tomorrow is Franklin VS Bush, but I unfortunatly wont be able to make that. I'll certainly be there for attempted scrub-day on friday.

NFH: Will you bring the ROTK sign tonight? How late do you expect to be?
Named For Hank - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 03:47 PM EDT (#53029) #
If I leave when I'm supposed to, I'll be there at 8:30. If I give up and leave early I'll be there at 7:30. Leaning towards 7:30.
_StephenT - Wednesday, July 07 2004 @ 09:38 PM EDT (#53030) #
fyi: They showed the sign on TSN while Delgado was batting in the 7th.
Named For Hank - Thursday, July 08 2004 @ 11:32 AM EDT (#53031) #
Well, gentlemen, I would call that a rousing success!

While there will be no drum tonight, we've been granted permission to hang a #17 banner over the wall in the section next to Tony Fernandez in the Level of Excellence, where Phelpsy's towering homer went! We're just not allowed to stay over there once it's hung. That's fine by me -- those are fun seats, but they're really terrible for watching a game.

So, who else is coming out?

Excellent. Alex, I'll be around at 7:30 or so to borrow the duct tape. ;)

The numbers are a pair of two by three foot panels.
_Fawaz K - Thursday, July 08 2004 @ 10:28 PM EDT (#53035) #
Why sportsnet kicks TSN's ass - the ROTK sign got a LOT of screen time tonight.
_Rob - Thursday, July 08 2004 @ 11:01 PM EDT (#53036) #
Any plans for tomorrow's Angels game?
_StephenT - Thursday, July 08 2004 @ 11:14 PM EDT (#53037) #
fyi: I saw the #17 on TV and it was mentioned on the radio. I never guessed it was you guys who put it there until reading this now. Nice work.
_Rob - Thursday, July 08 2004 @ 11:26 PM EDT (#53038) #
Check this out, the headline on TSN.ca's Jays page. It might not be up there when you read it, but there's no doubt where they got the idea from. :)

Aaron, is there any chance the sign could be brought back on Friday, June 23rd when Carlos Delgado makes his return to the Rogers Centre?
Named For Hank - Tuesday, April 25 2006 @ 01:40 PM EDT (#145804) #
The sign itself no longer exists -- we left it at the RC, I think.  I do have the files and the printer still, but can't afford to re-print it without financial assistance -- the cost of these puppies clocks in at around $100 apiece and as a mostly stay-at-home father I can't justify the cost.

But if Bauxites were willing to chip in to cover the costs of the thing, yes, we could re-print it for the Return of the King.
