It was another wet day, but a hard rain did not fall in Dunedin and Dayton, Ohio. The farm affiliates, led by Zach Jackson's gem, split their two games.

The Fisher Cats send Vince Perkins to the mound today to face the Rock Cats. Weather permitting, of course.

Tampa 4 Dunedin 8

The D-Jays scored 2 runs in each of the 4th and the 5th innings and then blew the game apart with 4 runs in the eighth and coasted to an 8-4 win. Jayce Tingler, Ryan Roberts and Eric Arnold had 2 hits each in an efficient Dunedin attack. Zach Jackson threw 7 brilliant innings, allowing a solitary unearned run on 2 hits and no walks, with 7 strikeouts. I would love to see him do it again! Danny Core and Brian Reed closed out the game unmemorably. Mike MacDonald gets the start this afternoon for the Baby Jays against the T-Yanks.

The Lugnuts drew 8 walks, but just couldn't buy hit against Dayton and fell 2-1, with all the runs being scored in the 4th inning. Canadian A.J. Wideman pitched very well, going 5 innings and surrendering 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts. Juan Perez was even better, throwing 3 shutout innings on 1 hit and no walks with 3 strikeout. Christian Snavely led the Lugs' attack by reaching base in all 4 of his plate trips. Kyle Yates gets the start for the 'Nuts this afternoon.

After plenty of critical commentary after Zach's last start, it is nice to see him dominate an opponent. It was also nice to see that luck wasn't what produced this fine performance -- but simply a solid, solid game (2 hits).

It does address my concern that he might have had an injury or a tired arm. Looks like his mechanics were just plain out of whack. Though we should see a few more solid outings before we conclude he's righted.

Rosario was tagged pretty good today. I've been concerned about his control and how hard he's been getting hit in general. Hopefully he can get his issues sorted out. Aaron Hill had a strong double header for Syracuse though as the went 3 for 6 with his 6th double and 4th homerun of the year. He's now hitting .329 on the year.

Perkins also had problems today with only 1 k through 5 innings against 8 hits and 2 walks and a homerun. He managed to give up just 3 earned runs but still took the loss as the Fishercats offence continues to struggle with only 1 run scored in the game.

Dunedin finished on the wrong end of an 8-6 final. McDonald started and got a no decision. Tingler was 2 for 5 and is hitting .321. Lind was 1 for 3 with a walk (.359).

Yates pitched 6 shutout innings (3h, 3bb, 7k) and Lansing won an easy 11-4 game. Cannon hit his 6th homerun and Nielson his 4th. Rodriguez was 1 for 4 and hit his first homerun of the year. He also walked and scored 3 runs. Peralta was 3 for 5 with a double and is hitting .339.
