"And tonight's pitching matchup seems to favour the Jays to such a ridiculous degree that.... well, I actually have a bad feeling about it."

Me, four hours ago.

I humbly apologize. I never should have said that. I'm very, very sorry.

If you ever need to get information out of me, strap me into a chair and put the tape of this game on. I promise you, I'll cave faster than Jason Kenney in a slap-fight.

What happened? I was away tonight. Is Doc hurt, or did he just have a bad game?

Doc took a Kevin Mench liner off his right shin and had to leave the game. Word from the clubhouse during the broadcast was that he had a bruise ("contusion") and was going to the hospital for a precautionary X-ray.

estimated return date?

Also, it wasn't the right shin, it was the left ankle, from what I now understand. I thought it hit him on the shin.

Incidentally, what do folks think about the scorer's decision to give no error on the final play of the game? (It was scored as a fielder's choice, saving the Jays from the ignominy of a three-error inning). I think it would have been hard for Zaun to take the throw and tag Soriano, but I think he could have done it with a perfect throw and ordinary effort. I think it's an error, but in the grand scheme of things I suppose it doesn't matter.

It sure felt like a three-error inning. What a nightmare! But of course it's only one game and the team has been playing well.

This game was a turning point.

Gross' throw to the plate was the start of the up...this appalling display may be the beginning of the end. In two more days we'll know if this team takes the easy road out and quits or sucks it up big time.

Should be interesting.

If I hear ANYONE knock the O'Dog after tonight remind me to put a contract out on them!

The season turns on how we handle this ugly loss.

I haven't seen any new reports, but it wouldn't surprise me if the ankle was indeed the problem. The ball hit his shin with such force that it dislodged his plant foot from underneath him, putting severe strain on the ankle.

Last nights game is a prime example of how defence can win you games and lack of defence can lose games. I sure hope that JP was pauing close attention to the O-Dawg less infield last night, because trading his magic glove for anything less than a major player would be a terrible mistake. While Menichino tries hard and is a good all round sub, there were at least 2 plays that Hudson would most likely have made which would have saved the Jays runs. Gold glove quality defenders who hit at least middle of the pack position wise are not available under every Christmas tree.
