Continuing yesterday's theme, today's photo features another collision.  In this picture, Payton has just crashed into Hill's legs to disrupt Hill's double-play throw to first -- the two of them are tangled on the ground, watching first base to see the outcome of the throw:

Click on the image to see a desktop-sized version.  This is one of a sequence; Payton hitting Hill while Hill's trying to throw will certainly show up as a PotD in the coming weeks.

Payton- "Uh-oh, heres comes your manager, he's all kinds of crazy!"

Hill- "Just stay down and act dead, it's our only chance"

Lol. That's funny. But its also ironic because Jay Payton went and hugged Gibbons during batting practice because they played in the Mets farm system together and are friends.

I believe that the double play was turned, though I was looking through the viewfinder and getting this shot, so I didn't see it myself.  It was late in the game, and McDonald got the ball to Hill, if you want to look it up in the box score.

This is an exceptionally fine picture, in composition and clarity.   I like looking at it, and I suppose that's the real test. Thanks.

Thanks, Timber.  This sequence, and the sequence of Zaun crashing into Kendall, are probably the best things I've shot this year -- not just from a content standpoint, but because I correctly anticipated both plays and was able to get set for something really good.  Last year when I tried that I'd miss both the shot I wanted and something else that happened at the same time; this year I simplified my gear and was routinely bringing only one lens to the game.  That would mean that I'd miss some shots simply because of my angle of view, but that I wouldn't miss shots because I was futzing around with the gear.

During the last two outings I felt really dialed in, so I challenged myself on Tuesday by bringing a fairly extensive kit.  I ended up using four different lenses, got a good variety of stuff and only missed a couple of shots that I really wanted... but I didn't miss anything while changing up my equipment.

While browsing through the photographs on the way home, I was very satisfied.  That doesn't happen much for me, so I was happy about it.

I think this one is one of my favourites. The composition is kind of perfect. The extended arms and the splayed fingers mirror one another and the looks to first (mouths open in anticipation) mirror each other as well. The hands, especially Hill's, are kind of gentlemenly. Very nice, NFH.
