One night after a sweep New Hampshire were the only team with a win.  Brett Cecil pitched well and Travis Snider hit a three run home run.  David Purcey and Randy Boone pitched OK but both lost.  Dunedin Jays took the example of the big club and were blown out.

Syracuse 0  Durham 3

David Purcey pitched pretty well in this game, five hits allowed in 5.2 innings.  However four of the five hits produced three runs.  Justin Ruggiano, the outfielder, could be a call up to Tampa soon, he is hitting .375 with a 1175 OPS, in just 48 at-bats.  Syracuse had ten hits but couldn't bunch them enough to score a run.  Durham's starting pitcher was 23 year old Chris Mason who now has a 4.25 ERA, one of several players knocking on the door to play in Tampa.

The Chiefs had ten hits, Lind, Lopez and Watson had two each.

New Britain 3  New Hampshire 5

Brett Cecil had another excellent start, 4.2 innings, one hit, a solo home run, one walk and five K's.  Julio Pinto pitched 3.2 shutout innings in relief before leaving in the ninth with the bases loaded.  Zach Dials did allow one hit before nailing down the save and the win.  The Fisher Cats got on the board with two runs in the third inning, Josh Kreuzer was hit by a pitch, Ryan Klosterman doubled him home and Scott Campbell doubled Klosterman in.  In the fifth Travis Snider hit a three run home run to score Anthony Hatch and Klosterman who had each singled.

New Hampshire had nine hits Klosterman was the only hitter with two.

Dunedin 2  Palm Beach 9

Adrian Martin was back in the starting line-up but things didn't go well, he allowed three runs in the first inning on four hits.  Martin gave up three more runs in the fourth before being pulled.  Paul Phillips came on in relief and gave up a two run home run in the fifth inning.  Dunedin had a chance in the sixth, Emaus, Dopirak and Arencibia singled to load the bases but Matt Lane hit into a double pay that scored a run.  The Jays tacked on another run in the seventh but that was it.

The Jays had nine hits, Emaus and Dopirak had two each.

Lansing 2  West Michigan 4

Randy Boone gave up singles to the first two hitters with a throwing error to Darin Mastroianni added.  West Michigan's first run then scored on a ground out.  Lansing tied the game in the top of the second, John Tolisano singled, stole second, and scored on a Manny Rodriguez single.  However the game was untied in the bottom of the second as West Michigan went ahead with a lead-off home run.  Wes Stone then made an error and two added doubles gave Michigan three runs in the inning and a 4-1 lead.  The hitting took a break then as there was only three hits between both teams over the next four innings.  Boone pitched six innings, only one of the four runs was earned.  He gave up seven hits and no walks.  Tim Collins pitched two shutout innings in relief with four K's.  Lansing's other run scored in the eighth, Moises Sierra doubled with two out and Mastroianni singled him in.

Lansing had seven hits, Mastroianni and Tolisano had two each. Tolisano's batting average is now up to .279, Justin Jackson went 0-4 to drop below .300.

The news in Syracuse was pretty good despite the loss.  Purcey walked 2 and struck out 7 in 5.2 innings, although the 106 pitches are a sign that he didn't have his best control.  Brandon League faced 4 batters, struck out 3 and induced a groundout. He has walked 1 and struck out 12 in his last 4 outings (9.1 innings).  Adam Lind singled and doubled in 4 trips.

League had better velocity this spring, and if his control is back, he could be a very valuable member of the major league bullpen shortly.
