Ricky Romero delivered another good start as New Hampshire won.  Auburn also won but Syracuse and Dunedin lost easily.  Lansing had to play through a couple of rain delays, and made five errors, and lost.  The winless GCL Jays lost a pair, both in the last inning.

Syracuse 2  Lehigh Valley 10

Bill Murphy started and pitched five innings only allowing four hits.  However two of the hits were home runs and Murphy walked eight hitters, including two walks with the bases loaded.  For the second game in a row a position player pitched, this time Matt Watson pitched the eighth and gave up a run.  Syracuse had taken the lead in the first, Wayne Lydon singled, stole second and scored on a single from Kevin Mench.  Danny Sandoval also homered for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had twelve hits, Lydon, Sandoval, Mench, Luna and David Smith had two each.

New Britain 1  New Hampshire 3

Ricky Romero gave up a double to the lead-off hitter of the game, who later scored on a sac fly but that was it for the scoring off Romero through 6 innings.  That's back-to-back good starts for Romero.

New Hampshire scored two runs in the third.  Anthony Hatch reached on an error, Chris Gutierrez was hit by a pitch, Scott Campbell singled in a run and Aaron mathews singled in another.  Hatch hit a solo home run in the seventh to make the score 3-1.  But in the eighth New Britain again made it a one run game with a run off Jared Gothreaux.  Zach Dials got a four out save.

New Hampshire hitters had seven hits, Jacob Butler had two.

Jupiter 6  Dunedin 2

Jupiter scored four runs in the first two innings and six in total off Kyle Ginley.  Ginley allowed eleven hits in his five innings.  Dunedin scored one run in the second, without a hit, and another in the fifth when Brian Dopirak singled in a run.

Dunedin had nine hits, Cory Patton was 4-5, Sean Shoffit and Dopirak had two each.

Lansing 1  West Michigan 3

Brain Letko had a tough first inning in his first start for Lansing, he allowed a three run home run.  But he settled after that and pitched five innings.  John Tolisano hit a solo home run in the eighth but that was it for the Lugnuts.  Matt Liuzza and Yohermyn Chavez had two hits each.

State College 1  Auburn 7

The college boys scored first, in the fourth but Auburn answered with seven runs.  Auburn scored two in the fourth with Bartolo Nicolas and Adam Amar singling.  Auburn scored two more in the fifth, this time Chris Demons and David Cooper singled in runs.  Demons and Amar singled in runs in the seventh and Leance Soto doubled in a run in the eighth.  Matt Wright started and pitched three innings.  He was followed by Kyle Walter, John Anderson and Justin Cryer.

Deond, Amar and Rivera had two hits each.

GCL Jays 5  GCL Yankees 6 (continuation)

This game was suspended in the ninth inning Thursday and was finished in the ninth Friday.  Yorman Mayora gave up a double and a single in the ninth.  Welinton Ramirez and Justin McClanahan had two hits each.

GCL Yankees 2  GCL Jays 1 - 8 innings

The winless Jays took a 1-0 lead into the seventh and possibly last inning, this being the back end of a doubleheader.  In the seventh Pitcher Willi Mendez allowed a one out walk, a single, a double steal and a sac fly to tie the game.  Joel Castillo came on in the eighth and gave up the go-ahead run.  The loss ruined a good start from Jonal Cuotto, five shutout innings, 2 hits allowed.  The Jays had only four hits.

3 star selection

3rd star - Adam Amar
2nd star - Cory Patton
1st star - Ricky Romero

"...That's back-to-back good starts for Romero"  ... and actually if you consider the June 22nd game which was cancelled after 4 innings in which Romero had only allowed 1 earned run that would mean that for his last 3 starts he's pitched 16.2 innings and allowed only 5 earned runs which is what (?)... 2.7 something ERA... he's still walking to many but for the last month he's outplayed  Tulowitzki which is progress.
