The only two wins could be found on the lowest level on the farm for the #BlueJays affiliates. Dunedin had the night off while Bluefield's home game against Princeton was rained out.

Pawtucket 3 Buffalo 2

Adam Lind's two-run blast off Luis Santos lifted Pawtucket above. 500 and Buffalo below .500. That ruined a good outing from Nick Tepesch after he allowed a run on three  hits, two walks and a hit by pitch over six innings. His strikeout and groundout totals were fie apiece. Jake Petricka struck out one in a shutout ninth.

Roemon Fields was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI but has struggled in the stolen base department as he was caught for the 10th time in 23 tries. Dwight Smith Jr. also had two hits.

Portland 8 New Hampshire 6

T.J. Zeuch was torched for seven runs in 3-2/3 innings and eight hits and two waks.  He surrendered two homers and struck out only one but got seven ground ball outs. Dusty Isaacs gave up a run over two innings. Travis Bergen struck out four over 2-1/3 scoreless frames and Kirby Snead struck out one to put up a zero in the ninth.

Bo Bichette had two doubles, a home run and a stolen base while Cavan Biggio went yard among his two hits. Harold Ramirez also added a couple of notches to his hit total.

Lake County 6 Lansing 0

Colton Laws coughed up four runs over four frames on eight hits and a walk to take the loss. He struck out four. Brayden Bouchey gave up a run on two hits but struck out four over three innings. Brody Rodning was nicked for an unearned run but struck out two in two innings and picked off a runner.

Norberto Obeso had a double, a single and a walk. Yeltsin Gudino, Matt Morgan and Reggie Pruitt had the other base hits. Chavez Young drew a walk and threw out a runner at second from right field.

Spokane 6 Vancouver 0

Elio Silva was slapped around for five runs on nine hits over five-plus innings. He struck out five and walked nobody.

Nick Podkul doubled twice and Sterling Guzman doubled and singled. You can read more about it right here.

GCL Braves 11 GCL Blue Jays 5

The Braves bats were mean to Alejandro Melean by clubbing three home runs and six runs in total over two innings. Nicholas Medina finished up with four K's in two frames.

Jordan Groshans was 2-for-3 with a double and is now hitting .474. Cal Stevenson had three hits while Yorman Rodriguez had a double and three RBI in five trips to the dish.

DSL Blue Jays 9 DSL Orioles 8 (10 Innings)

Jhon Solarte walked it off with a base hit to conclude a 3-for-4 day with two walks and two RBI. Rainer Nunez was 3-for-5 while Miguel Hiraldo had one hit in five plate appearances.

Ronald Govea, Franniel Polanco and Miguel Olivo were hurt by four errors which resulted in just two of the eight runs being earned. Olivo got the win after blowing the save.

*** 3 Stars !!! ***

3. Roemon Fields, Buffalo

2. Cavan Biggio, New Hampshire

milb with Bo stuff last night including video of his oppo field HR. His 3 hits moved him past Vladdy for the league lead.

He's hit almost the same vs RH /LH pitching and he's not just hitting, but power (about which a couple of posters expressed concern earlier) is starting to come around. Slugging April .427, May .427, June .528

Bichette is also 24-6 stealing bases and has drawn 30 walks, in a little less than half a season.  He's cut his strikeout rate a bit too.   He's looking very much like a top-of-the-order hitter.

This was from a while back but I don't remember anyone posting it from the FG pitch series.

Jeff Hoffman (Rockies) on His Slider

“The one pitch in my repertoire that I haven’t thrown my whole life is my slider. I picked that up in college. It actually started as a cutter, but I couldn’t really keep it small, like a cutter, so it turned into a slider. I’ve kind of just hung with it through the years, embracing it as a slider.

“Again, the original plan was a cutter. My curveball tends to be bigger, and we wanted something smaller that was just enough to miss a barrel. When I was in college, I tended to cut fastballs once in awhile, so it was one of those things where, if I do it by accident, I could probably do it on purpose. Dan Roszel was my pitching coach at East Carolina and he said, ‘Let’s try it.’

“When I got to pro ball, the Blue Jays weren’t a fan of cutters. When I told them that I was working on one, they kind of said, ‘Either it’s going to be a slider or it isn’t going to be anything at all.’ So I started throwing a slider.

“I didn’t actually change anything. Like I said, my cutter came out big, so I simply stopped calling it a cutter and started calling it a slider. It’s the same pitch.”

Groshans was pulled after running out a single in the sixth yesterday and is out of the lineup today... hopefully not a major issues.

Gabriel Moreno singled in his first at-bat in the GCL game.  He's now 9-14 with 5 extra base hits so far, at age 18.  He's a catcher and listed at 5'11", 160 lbs.  Anybody got a current picture of him?

Is it possible they are moving Groshans up already?

Removing a player in the middle of a game would happen if he's being promoted to the majors. Don't see that happening for minor league promotions.

Groshans is not moving up. He was on the radar gun today so he likely has an injury (per the above noted twitter feed).

Alejandro Kirk, the Bluefield DH is catching today. His hitting is very good, has 1 hit and 1 rbi today. He has the most ABs on the team due to not sharing the DH spot.

Thanks Gerry. Is he a prospect now? Maybe a 4th OF?

Davis is already 26. He could be a utility, or an up and down kind of guy.
uglyone - Tuesday, June 26 2018 @ 11:52 PM EDT (#360692) #
pardinho has been very, very, very impressive in his first two outings. not only striking out 35% of batters but also getting I think every other out on a groundball, with no flyouts.
Mike Green - Wednesday, June 27 2018 @ 09:23 AM EDT (#360705) #
C'mon, UO, Pardinho is 0-2.  Great pitchers get their offences to score runs for them by sheer force of will.

Seriously, I really like him already.
uglyone - Wednesday, June 27 2018 @ 09:57 AM EDT (#360708) #
Yeah I'm keeping a close eye on how he compares to our last 17yr old fireballer in Bluefield, and so far it's looking good:

Pardinho: 8.0ip, 33.3k%, 6.7b%, 11.8ld%, 76.5gb%, 2.25era, 4.32fip, 2.99xfip
Osuna: 24.0ip, 25.3k%, 6.3b%, 10.3ld%, 46.6gb%, 1.50era, 3.24fip, 3.64xfip
