An 0-2 night for the affiliates Tuesday. Buffalo's game against Scranton-Wilkes/Barre and New Hampshire's game in Altoona were postponed. Buffalo will play two on Wednesday and New Hampshire will do likewise on Thursday.

Eugene 6 Vancouver 5

The C's battled back from 3-0 and 5-3 deficits but Giants top prospect Marco Luciano homered to center field in the eighth off Jimmy Burnette to give Eugene the win. Burnette wound up striking out five over the last two innings. Sem Robberse surrendered a two-run home run and three runs in total over five innings on five hits but struck out four without issuing a walk. Of note, nine of his 10 outs in play were in the air. Alex Nolan worked a perfect sixth but was clipped for two runs, one unearned, in the seventh.

Vancouver got on the board in the third on a Trevor Schwecke home run. Addison Barger drove in the other four runs with a two-run triple in the fifth and a two-run single in the seventh. Harry Ray was 3-for-4 as the number nine hitter in the order. Leo Jimenez doubled and walked, Garrett Spain singled and walked and Schwecke drew a walk to get on base twice. Zach Britton had a single but P.K. Morris, Riley Tirotta and Miguel Hiraldo were a combined 0-for-14. Hiraldo's throwing error at second resulted in Nolan's unearned run.

Fort Myers 4 Dunedin 2

A four-run fifth propelled the Twins affiliate to victory. Connor Cooke took the loss but he pitched three shutout innings after the fifth, striking out seven while allowing two hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches. Matt Svanson pitched a two-hitter over the first four frames, walking one and whiffing five. Ryan Boyer struck out two in a perfect ninth.

Dunedin's runs came in the eighth on a Victor Mesia RBI groundout and an error. Estiven Machado, Rainer Nunez and Gabriel Martinez had the only hits.

*** 3 Stars!!! ***

3. Harry Ray, Vancouver

2. Trevor Schwecke, Vancouver

1. Addison Barger, Vancouver

Looks like Barger is, uhh, barging in to the prospect discussion.

Sorry for the pun, but the kid belongs in the conversation, and I think he gets missed due to circumstances more than anything.  A pretty normal two years after being drafted out of HS in the 6th round in 2018, and then pandemic.

58 ABs in Vancouver career, but so far he looks to have continued developing off the radar with the missed season.

It's kind of fascinating to me, tbh, the development of these under the radar types during the year we don't have info.

anyone see the guy play D?  He's one of those drafted at SS, plays all over prospects the team loves so.

Thanks for the great interview with Robberse #2!

A Barger had issues of some kind. In 2019 in the put on the restricted list July 13, 2019. That would be about 1 month into the Appy league season. Finally off the restricted list May 3,2021 and had a v good season.

We don't know much about his physical tools. Very strong arm I believe. I like all our prospects. I suspect Barger may have had emotional/mental issues to deal with but I don't really know. I also cannot remember a lot that I read as I age. I hope he succeeds and has overcome his past problems.

Barger has 58 PAs in Vancouver so far.  He has 0 walks, 15 strikeouts and 1 home run.  He is 22 years old.

I wish him the best, but he's going to have to control the strike zone to enter the prospect discussion.

Barger does have 3 doubles and 2 triples and a .256 ISO this season in his 39 PA's, but yeah, the zero walks does not bode well, no matter how well he's hitting.

Luciano wasn't the only Giants prospect in the game. As the 2018 season wound down, a few of us here really wanted to tank for a better pick. It came down to the Jays and Giants for picks 10/11. We went 4-6 to finish the season, the Giants 1-9, giving the Giants #10, and us #11. They took Hunter Bishop, we took Manoah. Bishop was a big time power, great speed guy. Due to injuries and ineffectiveness, he's almost 24 and seemingly over his head in A ball - pretty much in bust territory. Funny how things work out sometimes.

Just checked Austin Martin and SWR. Austin Martin is doing the same. Very good OBP (bb/k ratio). His power has not shown up yet. SWR is dominating. Both are repeating AA.

SWR is not dominating.  He's thrown 10.2 innings in 2 starts, walked 4 and hit a batter and struck out 8.  He hasn't allowed a run, courtesy of a .111 BABIP.

Anybody seen anything about a Pinto assignment?  Is there a short season league this year? All I see is 2 spring at bats, did he get injured, or is this complex/instructional? Curious to see how the plate discipline plays.
So far it looks like Jimenez will need an adjustment.

There is extended spring training. The FCL will start around the end of June.

Just watched some of the Bisons 2-1 win today. Games really move along well with the pitch clock and the 1 step out rule. Apparently games are 20 min shorter this year.

The Yankee starter is a pretty good prospect.

Moreno stung his double into the gap, but could have been caught. LF Andujar took a poor route, by the time he realized how well it was hit and broke back, the ball was over his head. Moreno only had one bad chase of an outside breaker, the pitcher executed some really good pitches against him for the K.

Capra drove one to the base of the wall right before Moreno's double, and had good swing decisions otherwise. Last year I would have said he was a 40 defender at best when I saw him, but Capra made 1 OK and 2 excellent plays at 3rd today. Diving stop to his left and throw from his knees to start a DP, started a 2nd easier DP and then another diving stop to his left and throw to 1st for the out.

Not a good day for Samad. A few poor swing decisions and little contact.

Large won the game with a bases loaded bloop double, but earlier 3 swinging strikes in a row on middle of the plate fastballs.

That sounds good.  I doubt you would find too many fans who would think otherwise.

Echoing 92-93, that was a fine game report, hypobole.  I see that the Bisons turned two 5-4-3 DPs.  How is Samad's pivot? I know with MiLB, you may not get the best look.
hypobole - Wednesday, April 20 2022 @ 04:56 PM EDT (#412646) #
Couldn't see the pivot on the 1st, double clutched but made a good throw per announcer. Only caught the tail end of the second, already facing 1st by the time to camera moved to him, but looked fine.

From game 2. Bottom 7, Shelby Miller trying to nail the save gives up a single and Samad pinch runs. Steals 2nd. Not close, already popping up from his slide by the time the ball arrives. Count 2-2 on Talley, Samad takes off for 3rd. Talley grounds out to 2nd. Samad hesitates briefly and takes off for home, and slides in safely. Bird's throw home went high, but Samad was safe even if on line.

Next inning, the Bisons again down a run. Warmoth takes off from 2nd on a flyout. Was out by 5 ft, but he knocked the ball loose from the 3B and scored to tie. Capra later pulled a solid single over the SS to win it.

Capra played left and made a couple of nice running catches.

Couple of plays from earlier in the game. The umps gifted S-W a 3 run HR that should have been a 2 run double. The ball clearly hit a couple of inches below the top off the wall. Lukes pulled a HR back in right later, leaping and gloving it over the wall.
