NOTES

It was a bullpen day for the Bisons. Yosver Zulueta started, went one inning, and gave up a run. Hayden Juenger had a very Juengerian outing. Four strikeouts in two innings but Toledo also took him deep twice. Trent Thornton came off the IL today and pitched an inning. Andrew Bash was just promoted from AA. He went two innings for the win.

Ernie Clement and Danny Jansen homered for the Bisons. Clement had three hits including the game winning RBI in the ninth.

I heard Casey Candaele talking on the Fan590 about Davis Schneider. To paraphrase, he said Schneider has an uppercut swing and has to work on his defence.

Trenton Wallace made his AA debut for NH on Friday. His start was not good, a walk and a double that led to a run. His finish wasn't good either, three hits led to two runs. In between those innings he pitched well. He was followed by Adrian Hernandez who went 2.2 innings with no hits or walks.

NH were down a run with two outs in the ninth. Then Orelvis Martinez doubled in the tying run. It was a bloop double into right field but it worked and it was his second hit of the game. earlier Sebastian Espino homered and Damiano Palmegiani doubled in a run.

CJ Van Eyk hadn't pitched in almost a month but he was back on Friday and went three perfect innings. He was replace by Kendry Rojas who gave up five runs in four innings.

In the FCL Christian Feliz, the large first baseman, went deep twice and drove in three runs. Al Pesto got the win. Pesto is unusual in the FCL, a 26 year old who had been pitching in independent ball. He got a contract because he was throwing 98-99 mph. Pesto pitched a clean inning with one K.

In the DSL David Guzman homered and singled and drove in three runs.

Great improvement by Orelvis.

I have been following the FCL and DSL games. Yesterday all the position players in both games were Latin players. Very many short players. A Tinnish said a few years ago that they look for up the middle players as well as elite skills like power if not up the middle players. The Cs are getting ABs at 1B/DH to develop their hitting.

SS, CF and Catchers are traditionally viewed as defensive positions.

The Yankees 5M prospect, Jasson Dominguez is listed at 5'11"/215lbs and play CF.

In memory of the late, great Mick Doherty, I humbly ask Al Pesto to change his first name to Basil.

Are his detractors anti-Pesto?

Last 17 games Orelvis has 16 BB's vs 10 K's.

And he has just hit #16.

Orelvis May 10 - June 9: .311/.421/.756. OPS 1.176

The question after last season was "rushed or exposed?". FG went exposed and dropped him to 10th on the Jays list. Other sites were more patient. The first month or so, it seemed "exposed" could be correct, but it's looking more and more "rushed" is actually the right answer.

Jimenez hit his 3rd homer in the opener. He's now hitting .296 with medium range pop and good plate control. For a fine-fielding 22 year old shortstop in double A, that works. Milb.com has video of his recent home runs. He's plenty strong.

Ian Churchill promoted to Vancouver.

Jackson Rees sent to the Development List. Wondering if there are any lingering issues in his recovery they're still trying to sort out, he just has not looked himself this year.

Devereaux Harrison now at 5 IP. 3 BB, 8 K. No hits.

Harrison and Svanson ended up throwing a 7 inning no-hitter for the Cs.

Alan Roden continues to hit, with a .304 average and a 27/24 W/K. They have him leading off and he's 9 of 11 stealing bases this year and 14 of 17 in his minor league career amounting to half a season. He's 23 and should be in double A any day now.
