NOTES

In Buffalo's game one Eric Lauer gave up two runs in five innings, his best start of the year. Dillon Tate struck out two but was taken deep for a solo home run. Jon Clase had two hits in game one.

In game two Christian Bethancourt and Rainer Nunez homered. It was a bullpen game and three of the five pitchers were scored upon. Eric Pardinho was not one of them, he struck out three in his inning but did allow a hit and a walk.

Jace Bohrofen got off to a low start, he was hitting .143 a week ago. He went deep twice on Friday and now has four home runs in his last four days. He is 7 for 14 over those four games and his average is now up to .256. Josh Rivera also homered his first of the season.

Ryan Jennings gave up two runs on a home run, his second not so good appearance in a row.

In Vancouver Juaron Watts-Brown walked a couple of lead off hitters and they both came around to score. He did pitch five innings with five K's but overall it was a shaky start.

Victor Arias hit his first home run of the season. Although it is his first home run he is hitting .306. Arjun Nimmala singled and walked, he is hitting .326.

Austin Cates cruised through four innings for Dunedin, just an error reaching base, with six K's. He did allow two runs in the fifth and was pulled with 70 pitches and 4.2 innings completed. Cates used four pitches and got whiffs with all four, he had 14 whiffs total.

Yeuni Munoz hit his fourth home run, third in as many days. Yhoangel Aponte hit his first home run of the season.

For those of you who like knuckleballs, Jays reliever Bennett Flynn threw 25 of them tonight getting 11 swings and 7 whiffs.

AA is brand new to Bohrofen. Beside the 4 HRs in his last 18ABs he has 1 bb and only 3Ks. Could be a hot streak or a weak opponent. C's Plus Baseball provided some video of him in Vancouver last year. To me his D was ok. He finally mastered hitting in August and Sept last year.

As Nigel mentioned in another thread, Bohrofen is a product of his home park which significantly favors LHHs. His OPS at home is 1.102 vs .368 on the road.

Jaden Rudd to IL in Dunedin and Jean Joseph is up from extended spring training.

I also just noticed that Flynn had broken out a knuckleball in his last two games. I had to go back and watch.

It's more of a harder RJ Dickey knuckeball (77-80 mph) than Wakefield or Hough (60-70 mph). It's also not a floater - it's more of a knuckle-curve. It has more of a pronounced drop like a breaking ball. It also has much more spin than a normal knuckler - between 500-900 rpm.

Curious pitch. He's pretty much 50-50 between the 91 mph fastball and the 77-80 mph knuckle(curve).

Nimmala and Arias both spending a few months in AA before the season is over would be ideal. I think those two are the top hitting prospects in the system right now.

I would agree but there is an OF/DH Yeuni Munoz at Dunedin who was injured a lot last year who thus far this spring has done well batting 3.06 with an OPS of 1.154 and 4 HR

Yeuni is interesting but he's not in the conversation for top prospect. He's very much a masher only, at least right now. Not overly athletic and struggles with breaking pitches.

Thanks for the insights Marc, I will keep an eye on him and see if he fades away. :o)

Three perfect innings for Yesavage so far, 38 pitches, six strikeouts.

Four perfect for Yesavage but trouble in the fifth.

Yesavage’s 10 Ks and zero walks in 5IP today is promising.
