NOTES
The Jays are looking for starting pitching and John Schneider name checked three of the starters in Buffalo, Grant Rogers, Chad Dallas and CJ Van Eyk. On Tuesday Rogers gave up six runs in the first inning. On Tuesday Dallas just lasted three innings as the Mets teed off on him for five runs in eight hits. Now what will Van Eyk do? The other two starters have had a shot already, Austin Voth and Josh Fleming. Of the five starters, Fleming is the one currently in form.
The Bisons scored five runs with six hits. William Simoneit doubled and homered and drove in two runs.
New Hampshire didn't offer any starting pitching help either. Richard Gallardo was charged with seven runs in four innings. Hartford hit three home runs among their nine hits. The lead was 9-0 headed to the bottom of the eighth. In that inning NH scored eight runs to make it a one run game. Jay Harry hit a grand slam home run and Patrick Winkel added a two run shot. That was as good as it got, Hartford added another home run in the top of the ninth and NH couldn't respond.
Jay Harry went 4-5 which included his grand slam. He is keeping his average up, its currently .347. Victor Arias was pulled from the game to start the sixth inning. I am not sure why but given Arias' injury record you have to wonder.
For good pitching you had to go to Spokane. Nolan Perry retired the first nine hitters he saw. He ended up throwing five innings, one hit, one walk and ten K's. He had 15 swing and misses with most of his strikeouts coming on his off-speed pitches. Perry's ERA in Vancouver is now 0.60.
Alexis Hernandez led the C's offense with two home runs and two walks. Dub Gleed also homered and went 4-5. Manuel Beltre had a big game, going 3-5. He scored the second run, drove in the third run and scored the fourth run
Dunedin are short starting pitchers with Barriera and Heidel hitting the IL last week. The Jays have signed two new pitchers and one of them, Blake Purnell, started on Wednesday. He did go five innings and was charged with three runs. Purnell's FB averaged 93 mph.
Jojo Parker and Edward Duran each singled and doubled. Juan Sanchez was 0-5, he also played third base and made two errors. He is up to nine errors on the season. Errors might not mean much at the lower levels but his defense bears watching.
