There's a wild finish ahead. With ten weeks left in our regular season, no team is a cinch to make the championship playoff round, not even my Toronto Walrus, still the front-runner after a narrow 6-5 decision over second-place AGF. Baird Brain, by defeating Jick's Rays 7-4, moved into a third place tie with Moscow Rats, who split 6-6 with hannibal's cannibals. Mebion Glyndwr edged Billie's Bashers 6-5, so they remain in fifth and sixth. Five other teams are bunched within five games of playing for the jersey.

The biggest move this week was by Garces_not_on_roids, whose 10-2 rout of the K-Town Mashers was enough to pass three teams. The lopsided loss dropped K-Town into the relegation danger zone, but right now, the difference between 19th place and making the consolation playoffs is slight -- with nine teams bunched within nine games, and 120 remaining to be played, absolutely anything can happen.

The standings through 12 weeks:
  # Team W-L-T Pct GB
1 Toronto Walrus 84-51-9 .615 --
2 AGF 81-54-9 .594 3
3 Baird Brain 80-58-6 .576 5.5
4 Moscow Rats 81-59-4 .576 5.5
5 Mebion Glyndwr 78-60-6 .563 7.5
6 Billie's Bashers 77-63-4 .549 9.5
7 Red Mosquitos 74-63-7 .538 11
8 Eastern Shore Birds 76-65-3 .538 11
9 gashouse gorillas 73-64-7 .531 12
10 hannibal's cannibals 70-63-11 .524 13
11 Chatsworth Halos 72-67-5 .517 14
12 Horse Field Hammers 67-70-7 .490 18
13 Springfield Isotopes 64-71-9 .476 20
14 SABR Magicians 64-72-8 .472 20.5
15 Garces_not_on_roids 64-77-3 .455 23
16 Austin Senators 58-75-11 .441 25
17 K-Town Mashers 58-78-8 .431 26.5
18 Reykjavik Fish Candy 60-81-3 .427 27
19 Thunderbirds 59-80-5 .427 27
20 Jick's Rays 34-103-7 .260 51
Proving that youneverknow, I was hoping to win four or five hitting points this week and maybe steal a pitching category. Instead, my opponent suffered through several no-decisions, Rich Harden's rotten luck and just one save opportunity for Rivera, so the Walrus staff, thanks to two Schilling wins, managed to earn five of six points. Good thing, too, as my hitting went south. It took a 2-run single by Miguel Cairo at about 11:15 last night to secure the RBI category, which I rarely win. Call me relieved that it's over, and nervous about my next matchup — the gashouse gorillas just whipped Horse Field Hammers 8-4, putting up some scary hitting numbers. I notice that Snellville, unconcerned about passed balls, is playing without a catcher, so I'm giving my guys the green light.

Over in Barfield Ghost Man on Third took a beating this week, but still has a comfortable lead.

The Pistol Nine scored a 9-3 win over Ben's Men which was actually a lot closer than the score indicated. I even took all 6 pitching categories with one of the worst staffs in the league.

If anyone is looking towards next year I would entertain offers for my keepers (Abreu, Helton, Pierre) for upgrades to my lineup this year. There's no categories that I couldn't use more help in.

I just looked over my draft, it's fun to see that I took Matt Morris 2 picks before Clemens was drafted among other things.

Wasted picks - Mantei 8, Mondesi 14, and the picks in rounds 18-25 have all been released (A Gonzalez, Bradford, Guiel, Fick, Mateo, Zimmerman, Cunnane).

Good picks - Abreu in the late 2nd, Veritek 9, Baez 10, Griffey 15

The other picks fall in the 'deserved to be picked where they were picked'.

Where can we find the sdraft results nowadays? I had trouble finding them not so long ago over in Barfield.
_Cristian - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 12:02 PM EDT (#54943) #
Donkit, go the bottom right of the league page. In the League Info box, click on All League Tools. You can find the draft results there. Of course, the draft is also on Scott Lucas' BBFL page, accessible from Batter's Box.

I only have 12 original Decepticons on my squad. Since the draft, my team has been largely overhauled. Notably waived: Ponson, BH Kim, DeRosa, Koch (Rounds 10, 12, 13, and 14). Alex Cintron, my round 9 pick, has been begging to be waived for some time now.

Week 12 Awards (dedicated to Good Sports, whose 10-2 victory over league leading Ghost Man on Third keeps the leader from running away with the league)

Bonds: Jason Bay - 6 runs/9rbi with a .320/.414/.720 line. I hope the days of Bay being benched for the likes of Rob Mackowiak and Daryle Ward are over.

Neifi: As has been mentioned, Juan Uribe is back in pumpkin form. However, even the pumpkin is no match for the spectacular flop that is Alex Cintron. A .111/.158/.167 week isn't really out of line with what he's been contributing the whole season.

Pedro: Strange week as my crappy staff (6.04 ERA this week) was able to pick up 5 of 6 pitching categories. Cory Lidle, who goes from ace to pumpkin on a weekly basis, gave me the only quality start of the week. I guess I now have to bench him this week.

Lima: Mark Buerhrle, ostensibly my ace, had a meltdown in Montreal against the worst offence in the league.

The Vancouver Cyphers continued their winning streak to a full month's worth of opponents by trouncing 1-Tool Wonders 11-1, including a clean sweep of the pitching categories.

Unfortunately, both Tim Hudson and Jeremy Affeldt join the disapointing Austin Kearns on the DL just as the Cyphers are about to face the league-leading Ghost Man on Third. Ryan Drese and Johan Santana will have to pitch every bit as well as they have in recent starts for the Cyphers to have a chance against their strong starting staff.

Still, 12th place in the standings is much better than 20th.

I ran the offensive gauntlet for the 4th week in a row! Can I make it 5?
_Donkit R.K. - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 03:52 PM EDT (#54946) #
Thanks. I think the Barfield draft info on Scott's page is a little messed up (maybe formatting in my browser?) because it claims that I selected Renteria in the first round and Mulder in the second. I actually picked Thome and Hudson.

The Good Sports did the whole league a favor by breaking their mini-slump in a 10-2 win over Ghost Man on Third. It wasn't really an outstanding performance, just a tough week for GMoT.

Bonds:
Mike Piazza wins this honor for the first time all season, narrowly edging out Rafael Belliard who homered in three straight games to start the week. Lew Ford and Mark Bellhorn also earn honorable mentions.
Leaders: Belliard 2, Podsednik 2, Clayton 2, Piazza 1, Johnson 1, Payton 1, Sanchez 1, Bellhorn 1, Ford 1

Hawpe:
I would be happy to trade Jay Payton, for just about anyone even remotely useful.
Leaders: Scutaro 2, Hawpe 2, Clayton 2, Everyone Who Played on Sunday 2, Daubach 1, Piazza 1, Segui 1, Payton 1

Schmidt:
It's Roger Clemens here, but Daniel Cabrera would have gotten it if I'd had enough confidence to actually start him.
Leaders: Schmidt 5, Clemens 3.5, Frasor 1, The Bullpen Collectively 1, Wilson 0.5, Kolb 0.5, Urbina 0.5

Ligtenberg:
Has Paul Wilson's carriage turned into a pumpkin?
Leaders: Ligtenberg 3, Clemens 2, Wilson 1, Field 1, Urbina 1, Correia 1, Osborne 1, Schmidt 1, Frasor 1

Go Vancouver Cyphers!

Bold is SO not in this year.

No, it isn't.

I got ripped 8-4 by MonkeymenCubed this week, despite some good hitting performances over the weekend. The loss took the wind out of my sails and knocked me back to 7th.

Bonds No doubt, Paul Konerko, 9/26, 5 runs, 11 rbis, .346/.379/.808.

Neifi Juan Rivera, 0/12, 0, 0, .000/.000/.000, about to be released as soon as I'm done posting this. Anyone who wants him, knock yourselves out.

Pedro Livan Hernandez, 14 IP, 2 W, line of 3.86/1.43/1.57. Too many walks this week, but the best you can expect from someone who gets run support from the Expos these days.

Lima Nothing really crappy this week, I'll go with Mike Gonzalez, 0.1 IP, 27.00/6.00/1.00. I lost all the pitching categories this week and this was the best I could find for Lima. Unlucky.

. I think the Barfield draft info on Scott's page is a little messed up (maybe formatting in my browser?)

It looked messed up to me as well, but I copied and pasted it into a spreadsheet and it came out perfect.
