Like Dave Berg, who we remembered yesterday, Jason Kershner also left the Blue Jays this offseason to sign with the Boston Red Sox, hoping to catch on with the World Champions.

Please share your memories of Jason Kershner in this thread.

Jason Kershner left some indelible memories for me, none more so than when he pitched two ruthless, efficient innings on September 3, 2003 that helped the Jays come from behind and beat the Yankees. He always seemed to be more than the sum of his parts, and while I hope he doesn't necessarily put it all together for the rival Red Sox, I hope he goes on to be a major leaguer for a long time yet.

Jason was kind enough to sit down with the Box's Gerry McDonald last July. You can read that interview here. We'll surely miss him.

He was so solid for us in '03 that Mrs. Hank and I brought out a giant JASON KERSHNER FAN CLUB banner and sat under it in the 500 level. Unfortunately, the banner was destroyed by that unexpected SkyDome rainstorm. We did have people join us under it, though, before its tragic loss.

The outing that stands out to me was on July 11, 2003 when Kershner came in to relieve John Wasdin after Wayback had surrendered 5 runs to the Yankees in just over one inning of work. Kershner pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing only one hit and one intentional walk. He got a standing ovation when he left, and after Miller retired a batter to get out of the sixth inning the Jays tied up the game in the bottom of the frame.

They'd lose the game 8-5 in the end, but Kershner's 4.2 one-hit innings of relief against the Yankees were memorable, and it was one of his best performances in the majors.

Yes, Thomas, I remember that game well. Kershner kept going and going, and every inning I thought he'd come out but he went back in and shut them down again. A great performance.

Kershner's story is just beginning. I am happy for him, but not for us, that he was picked up by the Red Sox, and I wish him well.

I'll always remember his emergency start in place of Doc in Seattle. I had tickets to that game but couldn't go because of a (minor) family emergency.

Good luck Jason.
