Here is mine:

1. Quiroz
2. Pettway
3. Lind
4. Patterson
5. Cannon
6. Roberts
7. Thigpen
8. Negron
9. Vito
10. Eric Arnold (my shocker)

I left Hattig off because he is rather old, and sort of stagnating this year at AAA.

As nice as the pitching list looks, this position player list is ugly.

1. Lind
2. Quiroz
3. Thigpen
4. Cannon
5. Roberts
6. Hattig
7. Negron
8. Diaz
9. Griffin
10. Rodriquez

I've left off Pettway, Patterson, and Soto. Hopefully at least two of them will rate this list this time next year, if not by the end of this season. I'd put Gross in the middle of the list if he were eligible.

1. Lind
2. Cannon
3. Roberts
4. Hattig
5. Pettway
6. Thigpen
7. GQ
8. Patterson (I hope)
9. Davenport (hurt, so based on last year)
10. Hetherington

The 10th spot was between Negron, Cota, Yuber R, Hall and Luke. I went with Luke as he is 22, healthy, in his first season of full season ball and has an OBP of .425 so far. No homers this year but he hit 8 last year in 196 AB with Pulaski last year. As a 9th rounder under the old regime I am guessing he has some tools as well. Flame away!

GQ, we need you.

Here is mine. I feel too many are underestimating Vito. His strong AFL should buy him more consideration. Way too much support for Q who wopuldn't be near as much a prospect if he wasn't a catcher:

(1) Cannon
(2) Lind
(3) Hattig
(4) Patterson
(5) Pettway
(6) Roberts
(7) Thigpen
(8) Vito
(9) Quiroz
(10)Negon & Diaz(tied)

If we were rating total offensive value and not just hitting, I would probably move Negron up about 4 spots. I am beginning to think he may well be the second coming of Alexis Rios. He 's taken awhile, but I think he's going to make it either with the Jays or someone else(trade bait?).
Although I didn't rank him I also think Hetherington looks interesting.

Lind
Quiroz
Cannon
Thigpen
Roberts
Pettway
Patterson
Griffin
Hattig
Johnston

If the hitting and pitching lists were merged into a top 10 list, for me the top 8 would be pitchers.

Wow, this is a motley crew. Between the promotions of Hill and Adams and the disappointment of Gross, there's not much here. I can't rank Quiroz that high -- he's going to be a #6 hitter in the majors, tops. Still, it's hard to find a deserving #1.

1. Lind
2. Roberts
3. Cannon
4. Griffin
5. Thigpen
6. Quiroz
7. Diaz
8. Johnston
9. Rodriquez
10. Negron

I'm not placing any of the '05 draftees till they've swung the bats for Auburn some more. Patterson might be Top Five easily, though. Don't overlook Clint Johnston.

I remember doing this 2 years ago. At that time, it was pretty clear that the top 5 prospects were Rios, Quiroz, McGowan, Gross and Bush, with a gap between the top 3 and the next 2. It is nowhere near as clear cut this time.

And, yes, the hitter's list is pretty thin.
Lugnut Fan - Friday, June 24 2005 @ 02:02 PM EDT (#120581) #
The lists look pretty good, but I would place Cannon over Thigpen. I know that Cannon strikes out a bit, but he has just been unconcious for the better part of a month. He's a little more of a power threat where Thigpen is a gaps hitter.

Where would you put Ty Godwin relative to this group? He seems to be having a very strong year in AAA.

It's hard to find 10. I can recollect seeing Delgado in St. Catherine's and we knew he was a prospect and that he enjoyed his work.
Hattig
Roberts
Cannon
Lind
Hetherington

Here are the New Orleans stats. As you can see, it's a favorable context for hitters, and Godwin's performance is ordinary. He's 25, and probably a little behind JFG. Both have a chance to be role players- JFG as a platoon bat and Godwin as a 4th or 5th outfielder.

Mike, New Orleans is a terrible place to hit:

2. Quiroz
3. Lind
4. Cannon
5. Pettway
6. Patterson
7. Johnston
8. Roberts
9. Thigpen
10. Negron

Quiroz gets one of the top spots here despite the fact that he won't hit for months. With Hill on the big team the Jays system seems positively barren of any standout hitting let alone power hitting.

The Jays have a real need in a future CF and catcher. Well in truth they could use help just about everywhere outside of third which is where I think Hill might win a number of gold gloves.
Mike Green - Friday, June 24 2005 @ 05:13 PM EDT (#120615) #
Jacko, it's a poor park for the PCL, but the league is just ridiculous this year. Colorado is pretty much a neutral park in the league. In the result, a .390 OBP in New Orleans is nothing special when the team average is .360. In the majors, Godwin might hit .270 with fair strike zone judgment, at best, and no pop. He's got good speed.
