The farm affiliates were swept, courtesy of some lackluster offensive
performances and a couple of bullpen collapses. The silver lining
for minor league watchers is the upcoming playoffs.

The Pawsox touched Ty Taubenheim for two taters in the third inning, and that was enough as the Sky Chiefs could manage only 3 hits on the evening. Taubenheim did not pitch badly, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Jamie Vermilyea was uncharacteristically wild, walking three Sox hitters, leading to two runs, in an inning of work. Adam Lind singled in 3 plate trips and drove in a run.
Reading 7 @ New Hampshire 4
The Fisher Cats were down 6-0 after 6 innings and could only make it halfway back on the Reading Railroad. Each member of the Cat lineup reached base at least once, courtesy of 7 walks and an HBP. Tim Olson doubled and singled to qualify in the traditional way. Ryan Patterson walked twice in 4 plate trips. Kyle Yates moved back to the rotation and allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits in 4 innings of work.
Dunedin 1 @ Lakeland 7
The D'Jays scored first on a single, a stolen base and an RBI single by Christian Snavely, but the rest of the news was not conducive to pleasant daydreams. Newly acquired Jeremy King started and was roughed up a bit and T. J. Gornati fared even worse. The D'Jays could manage only 4 hits on the evening.

The Doubledays took a 6-5 lead to the bottom of the eighth inning, but the roof caved in on Seth Overbey. Five hits, including a homer, and 2 errors later and the Muck Dogs were in their element. Matt Liuzza homered and drove in 3 to lead the offence, while Scott Campbell reached base three times in five tries. Chase Lirette started and went 5 nice innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 8.
Greeneville 8 @ Pulaski 7
The hometown fans at beautiful Calfee Park were treated to a barnburner, but the ending was more painful than a root canal. Pulaski fell behind 4-0 after 1 and 1/2 innings, but chipped away at the lead with one run in the bottom of the 2nd, and then 2 more in the bottom of the fifth. The Jays entered the bottom of the eighth inning trailing 5-3. Baron Frost plated Roger Ebarb's triple with a double to bring Pulaski within a run. The Jays then loaded the bases for Young Yohermyn Chavez, who promptly emptied them with a bases-clearing double. On came Nathan Starner for the save, but it was not to be. A fielding error, a single and a 3 run homer put the G-Braves in the lead. The Jays put runners on 1st and 3rd with one out, but could not bring home the tying run. The 17 year old Chavez, Frost and Jonathan Jaspe each had 3 hits to lead the Jay offence. Joe Wice and Matt Foster each pitched brilliantly in relief, with Wice striking out 4 and allowing only a solitary hit in 2.2 innings of work and Foster striking out the 3 batters he faced.
