I couldn't bring myself to vote on the poll. I felt it was like rating which colour paint you like watch drying best. I can't remember the Jays having such a low ceiling and low performing top 10. I'm not even mildly excited about any of them. My best guess is that Cecil, Magee or Godfrey (who didn't even make the list) might be our best chance. Possibly a few of this years crop might turn into something, here's hoping.

Mylegacy, I have to agree with you here. This is perhaps the least inspiring group of young pitchers that we have had to follow in a long time. This is, in part, due to the graduate of some solid young talent like Jansen, Marcum, and Litsch, and the trading of others (Bush, Mantsy),  but it also means that there were a couple of dude pitching drafts as well (i.e. 2001; 2005).

It may also be a problem that the Jays have avoided high school arms and thus the arrival of pitching has been less staggered than one might see from teams that have drafted college, junior college, and high school arms.

The fact that Litsch is not there is really a bit of a fluke.  If he had been, Litsch, Cecil, Romero and Purcey would be a fairly reasonable collection at the top of the prospect list.

There isn't as much depth as one might hope for because the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders of the last few years have tended to be hitters.  Danny Hill was the notable exception, and his selection appears to have been motivated by financial constraints.

Or didn't exist because of the Koskie, Burnett and Ryan signings.

You are correct.

From License to Deal by Jerry Crasnick there's a small blurb on the selection of Danny Hill.

"is coming off a mediocre college season. But he's a senior with no college eligibility left, and the Blue Jays, always on the lookout for ways to save money, figure they can sign him cheaply and have a serviceable middle reliever down the road.........When Toronto scouting director John Lalonde agrees to give Hill a $285,000 bonus -about 70 percent of slot - Matt (Hill's agent) is ecstatic."

And in the next round they got Janssen who was also a senior discount.  I suppose you could argue either the Jays got lucky or the amount of the bonus doesn't matter.

The picks right after Hill, as far as I can tell, haven't amounted to much so it doesn't look like it matters who they took.
