Long-time (and original) Bauxite Mike Green recently posted thus,
Jimmy McMath passed away recently.  Short career, but great name, and what town would have a high school named "Druid"?

Putting aside the second part of his post (for now, anyway), I was of course struck by the phrase "but great name" -- and indeed it was. It made me wonder, from a Hall of Names perspective -- and I got nothin' here, really -- have there been enough players with names that sound like high school core courses to fill out a whole schedule, or even a whole roster?

I'll be thinking that over in Kelly Shoppach class. Surely you can be more creative than that, Bauxites ... whatchagot?

There have been a bunch of guys named Art over the years.  I did a quick search on BBRef for them, but there are too many for me to sift through.

Good one, O.R. -- but to simplify, as Bill Maher is fond of saying ... NEW RULE ... last/family names only,. That way we aren't overrun with "Math"ews or "Art"hurs. (There's never been an MLB player whose last name started with "Art"? Really?) It also keeps us out of the awkwardness of someone claiming "Gym" Palmer or other such nonsense.

Hm. this one is hard! Anyone else got an idea or six?

I found a minor leaguer named John Chemma ... nothing else ringing the school bell yet?

II've actually got one (two, even!)! Woo-hoo ... ?

There have been five MLB aluni named "French" (SO I guess we could claim French I, II, III and IV plus an  extra-credit course?) The best of them was All-Star LHSP Larry French.

I suppose that also makes room for the mispronounced Esteban German? (There are actually options for German I, II and III -- nothing for seniors,. I guess ...)

Sorry for spamming the thread but it's a holiday and I'm only getting one thought at a time.

Dennis Cook.... Cooking class was the slang for Home Economics around my school many moons ago.

Good additional CeeBee -- even if you did take a virtual thwack at those of us who are proud owners of a B.A. in English -- worth every bit of the paper it's printed on!

Ooh, there's new nicknames to help us out with long-ago All-Star Jimmie "Study" Hall ... and more recent AAAA guy Rolando "Home" Roomes?

Steven Register could be of some assistance in the office I suppose.

If nicknames are good to go, how about Frank "sweet music" Viola for the music class.

German Jiminez would score on both counts with assists from anglicization and homonyms.  In other news, there have been 5 minor leaguers with first name "Socrates" including the great name "Socrates Red".

I was, incidentally, not an original Bauxite, as CraigB, Spicol and Chuck can attest.  It was a better place back in that paleolithic time. :)

My favourite classes were the (Bob) Reeces and (Matt) Hollidays.  In the minors there have been a bunch of Drivers, but sadly none were called Ed.
