NOTES

The Buffalo offense is cooking and RJ Schreck is the head chef. He had three more hits on Sunday and four RBI to give him 16 RBI this week. If he is not player of the week in the IL then the winner must have done something amazing. If Schreck can keep this up it will be hard to keep him down. Catcher willie McIver also had a big game, four hits including a three run home run. Ismael Munguia had three hits also.

Josh Fleming had an unusual start. He went five innings with LHV scoring one run. But Fleming did not strike out anyone, a big fat zero. I think I know why. He had eleven ground ball outs and zero fly balls, the hitters were just pounding it into the ground. Pat Gallagher recorded five more outs with just one hit and two K's.

For NH, Jackson Wentworth had an off day, the Sox scored five runs off him in three innings. The bullpen didn't help later.

The Fisher Cats had eight hits, Victor Arias hit his first home run of the season, Jace Bohrofen his tenth. Arias added a double, Bohrofen a single. Arjun Nimmala was 1-2 before being removed, possibly after a caught stealing.

Daniel Guerra had a rough start in Vancouver's game. The first three hitters went walk, single, home run. He went on to give up four more runs.

The C's trailed 12-2 in the eighth, they scored six late runs to make the score look better. In total the C's scored eight runs with five hits. Carter Cunningham hit his seventh home run, a two run homer. Alexis Hernandez hit his second, a three run shot.

Yorman Licourt hit a two run home run to get the Jays started. Jojo Parker drove in two runs, one with a sac fly and the other with a double. Parker, Blaine Bullard and Juan Sanchez each had one hit in the game. The Dunedin season is just over a month old now, these three young prospects have become used to A ball. Now you would hope to see improvement from month one to month two.

Dylan Watts was the starter. He went three innings, two runs allowed. Carson Myers went three shutout innings. Myers was charged with two runs in three of his first four starts, his ERA was 7.04. Since then he has thrown ten innings allowing just one earned run. He has 13 strikeouts in the ten innings.

Kind of hard to watch Schreck and Pinango light things up and then watch the major league team look so feeble. Hopefully, MacIver looking good will mean Jays feel comfortable with depth so they can choose to keep Valuenzuela.

Notes from BA:

Blue Jays infielder Sean Keys continues to show why he was a popular breakout pick, adding another home run and, somewhat surprisingly, four stolen bases. His 108+ mph 90th percentile exit velocity is massive, and if he proves capable of handling elite velocity consistently, he has 30-homer upside in the majors.

Fellow Blue Jay, shortstop Arjun Nimmala, debuts on the Double-A charts after hitting four home runs in High-A. RoboScout projects a peak of 20 to 25 home runs with roughly league-average offensive production. The 20-year-old has yet to homer for Double-A New Hampshire but owns a 121 wRC+ while improving his in-zone contact rate, chase rate and 90th percentile exit velocity compared to 2025.

39. Blue Jays — Sean Duncan, LHP, Terry Fox Secondary HS, Port Coquitlam, B.C.

Bonus Pool: $5,543,100
Slot Value: $2,571,700

Duncan has plenty of starter traits with great feel to pitch, a fastball up to 95 mph from the left side and feel to land multiple quality secondaries. He’s getting some buzz inside the first 30 picks, so he might not even make it to this spot.

Schreck has done two things so far this year- cut his K rate by a third, making his W/K rate a definite plus and increased his line-drive rate to 27%.  He'll be 26 in July.

Schreck

1st 31gms: 120pa, 17.5bb%, 17.5k%, .151babip, 26tb, 61wrc+
Last 6gms: 30pa, 10.0bb%, 6.7k%, .619babip, 27tb, 346wrc+

Total: 37gms, 150pa, 16.0bb%, 15.3k%, .255babip, 53tb, 119wrc+

More total bases in the last 6gms than the entire season oreviously.

All hail the babip gods.

And we still have some more positive babip regression left to come i think.

Schreck had a 129 WRC+ last year in AAA and has been better in pretty much every way this year except BABIP. How that translates to majors is obviously a different story, but Jays can't keep playing guys who can't hit in the majors forever when they have guys raking in AAA (can they?)

I doubt anybody would care much if they chose to release Sanchez to open up a spot for a Pinango or Schreck, but Sanchez is hitting .250/.296/.423 vs. RHP and is a good game or two away from his typical splits. He doesn't run well though and he looks so damn weird in the outfield (even when he makes a routine play), so he definitely needs to start hitting if he wants to stick around.

Although the shape of their offence is different, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't much to choose between Lukes, Sanchez, Pinango and Schreck offensively. Lukes would seem to have the upper hand given he's an above average fielder. Given Sanchez offers nothing other than his bat, I'd lean into one of Schreck or Pinango right now. It's not really the issue on the team though.

Anyone know what's going on with Sam Shaw? Went on the IL late July and still hasn't returned.

"roughly league average offensive production"

Would be disappointing.
Nigel - Monday, May 11 2026 @ 09:29 PM EDT (#477772) #
Nimmala reminds me of Alex Gonzalez (the Jays version) with a bit better strike zone control and a little less defense. I don’t think league average offense would be a disappointing outcome.
uglyone - Monday, May 11 2026 @ 09:54 PM EDT (#477775) #
I think Nimmala's shown a lot more patience and a lot more power than Alex ever did.

Nimmala's lines look more like Barger's lines, except he's doing it younger and while being a SS>
Nigel - Monday, May 11 2026 @ 10:03 PM EDT (#477776) #
Up to this point in their careers Gonzalez had at least the same if not a higher slugging % than Nimmala. As I said Nimmala, has shown more patience. Comparing him to Barger is a bit odd given that Barger’s power suddenly spiked after a physical transformation. Saying that someone could be a league average hitter and a league average defender at SS is an excellent outcome for any prospect. It isn’t a slam at all. But Nimmala has some issues at the plate that I’m not sure are behind him.

but SLG is a measure of both contact and power, not just power. ISO is how to measure just power.

funny enough i'm not even sure which alex gonzalex you're referring to....but both work. The alexes were much more contact hitters than power hitters at the same point.

By age 20, all three had started in Rk and worked their way up to AA.

Alex 1: 1399pa, 6.4bb%, 19.3k%, .270avg, .135iso
Alex 2: 857pa, 6.2bb%, 16.6k%, .265avg, .142iso
Nimmala: 1101pa, 11.4bb%, 24.9k%, .232avg, .194iso

Barger missed most of his 19 and 20 year old years to covid so let's just skip to age 22 when he hit AA even though that gives him an advantage over the others:

Barger: 1187pa, 1039ab, 9.7bb%, 26.2k%, .262avg, .214iso

So Nimmala had double the walk rate of the alexes but with more Ks and much more power - more similar to a guy like Barger IMO.

Nimmala had a .245iso in A at 18 and a .241 this year in A+ at 20.

Barger had a .243iso in A at 21 and peaked at a .258 in A+ at 22.

Alex 2 peaked at a .180iso at age 20 in AA and followed it with a .166iso at age 21 in AAA.

Alex 1 had a .131iso at 19 in A, and peaked at .162 at 20 in AA.

As I said above, it was the Jay’s Alex Gonzalez. You can’t just ignore the contact element of SLG. ISO is irrelevant if you can’t make contact.
uglyone - Tuesday, May 12 2026 @ 09:00 AM EDT (#477780) #
There were 2 jays Alex Gonzalezes tho.

I don’t ignore contact - batting average is there too. It's just that batting average doesn't tell us anything about a prospect's power.

There is an account on X/Twitter called Blue Jays Player Development. Their description says unofficial player development account of the Blue Jays.

I had thought it was just a fan posting but today the account posted exit velocity information from the complex league. That information does not appear to be publicly available. Its not on Baseball Savant or Milb.com.

Does anyone know anything more about this account and its unofficial status?
