The ALCS starts Saturday with Doug Fister versus Andy Pettitte. The story of the division series was the non-hitting of A-Rod, Cano, Swisher, Miggy Cabrera, etc. Things change fast in baseball and often the MVP of one series becomes the 100 hitter of the next. On the other hand some of these laggards will be big producers in the ALCS.

The last three World Series champions are in the playoffs. The fourth team is Detroit who last won in 1984. Detroit beat the Yankees last season in the division series in the maximum five games.

The NLCS starts Sunday with Lance Lynn facing Madison Bumgarner.

With two wild card games in the book it's now division series time. There are two games on Saturday, four on Sunday and two on Monday to accompany your turkey eating.

The first wild card game was wild, in particular the Braves players after the game.

The Toronto Blue Jays 2013 schedule is out.  They will play the Cleveland Indians for the second straight year in their season opener but this game will serve as the Jays home opener as well.

According to a press release from BlueJays.com, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed catcher Jeff Mathis to a two-year contract extension for $3 million dollars.

Jeff Mathis, scoring a run in Seattle July 31, will call Toronto home for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

The bullpen shuffle continues, as last night's winning pitcher (that would be Jesse Chavez) has been DFA'd. (Quick update there!)

We need a thread to catalogue the Jays woes over this long weekend. As Dirk Hayhurst said today todays game is brought to you by the Red Cross. In case you missed it here is yesterday's news:

We've been waiting breathlessly for the final roster move to clear space for Happ and Lyon on the active roster. It had been speculated, and reported, that Andrew Carpenter would be Designated For Assignment.

The Blue Jays have optioned RHP Sam Dyson to New Hampshire and will recall C-INF Yan Gomes from Las Vegas (as reported by Barry Davis and others on The Twitter.)

That was yesterday. Today they sent seven bodies to Houston (including the much beloved Francisco Cordero and Ben Francisco) in exchange for pitchers J.A. Happ, David Carpenter, and (the Prodigal Returns) Brandon Lyon.

Jose Bautista has left tonight's game with what The Gregor is characterizing as not a break but a "tendon issue," which I'm not sure what that means. The Yankees broadcasters were apparently speculating that he might have broken a hamate bone, but either way, it's pretty terrifying, and if Bautista misses much time it's hard to see how the Jays, even only 2 games out of the Wild Card (but behind 5 other teams) would realistically contend, missing much of their rotation and now their best hitter.

Tuesday Update: Bautista to the 15-day DL with apparently no structural damage; he's optimistic he comes back in 15. Gose up.
