New Hampshire and Dunedin were bombed and Bluefield was blown away in a doubleheader sweep. That's the bad stuff out of the way. The good news was the affiliates won six out of 11, including a doubleheader victory and a walk-off win.

The Vancouver Canadians celebrate a walk-off victory over Everett thanks to Sean Hurley's RBI double. Hurley almost lost his shirt in the celebration.

Rochester 7 Buffalo 0 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)

Buffalo, NY - The Twins affiliate pecked away at Todd Redmond (1-4,4.84) for three runs over five innings on four hits and three walks against one strikeout. Greg Burke was gashed for four more runs on four hits, including a homer, but struck out three and walked nobody.

A double by Matt Hague and singles by Luke Scott and Ty Kelly was all Buffalo could produce with the bats. Dalton Pompey and Ezequiel Carrera were a combined 0-for-6 at the top of the order and George Kottaras was also 0-for-3. Andy Burns, Roemon Fields and Jon Berti were all 0-for-2. Fields did get an assist throwing out a runner at home from center field on an 8-6-2 play in the first.

Buffalo 9 Rochester 0

Buffalo, NY - The Herd put up crooked numbers in the first three innings to get a doubleheader split. An Alex Hassan RBI double and an Andy Burns RBI single put Buffalo up 2-0 after one. Another run came in the second after Josh Thole doubled and scored on a double play grounder by Dalton Pompey. The game was put away with a grand slam by Ty Kelly in the third. Pompey grounded out to bring in another run and got an RBI for it to cash in a Jon Berti single. Pompey scored the last run in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch and eventually driven in by a Burns sacrifice fly.

Chad Jenkins managed to cobble together three scoreless innings in spite of six hits and a walk. He struck out two before turning the ball over to Ryan Tepera, (2-1) who struck out a pair over two scoreless frames. Colt Hynes walked a batter but still held the Red Wings off the board in the sixth. Ben Rowen took care of the final three outs, giving up just one hit.

Akron 10 New Hampshire 3

Manchester, NH - The rubber met the road early in this one as Austin Bibens-Dirkx gave up a grand slam in the first inning and a solo homer in the fifth. That was among nine hits, two walks and a hit by pitch over five frames for the veteran righty, who struck out six. Dustin Antolin allowed another two runs (one earned) on a hit and two walks with one strikeout in the sixth. Danny Barnes was torched for another three runs on three hits in the seventh with one K. Chad Girodo struck out three and gave up just two hits in two scoreless frames.

The Fisher Cats pulled to within 4-3 when Dwight Smith Jr. connected for a three-run homer, scoring singles by Shane Opitz and Matt Newman. Smith had the lone two-hit game for New Hampshire. Jorge Flores, Melky Mesa and K.C. Hobson reached twice with singles and walks. Ryan Schimpf and Kevin Nolan were a combined 0-for-8 in the four and five spots in the batting order. Derrick Chung was 0-for-1 before being replaced by Jack Murphy behind the plate. Murphy was 0-for-3.

Daytona 8 Dunedin 0

Dunedin, FL
- The Reds affiliate scored twice in the first inning and never looked back to blank Dunedin. Conor Fisk (0-1, 10.80) had a shaky start and ending with three scoreless innings in between during his five-inning outing. He was lit up for a two-run homer among five hits and three walks, resulting in six runs. He struck out a pair with five of his 12 outs in play on the ground. Griffin Murphy put up a pair of zeros and struck out one before turning to ball over to Brady Dragmire. He yielded two runs (one earned) on four hits but had a K-BB total of 4-0.

Dunedin did not get their first hit until the seventh inning when Mitch Nay broke up the no-hit bid with a single. Derrick Loveless followed Nay with a base hit and Jason Leblebijian had a two-out triple in the eighth. Loveless, Dickie Joe Thon and Anthony Alford all picked up walks and J.D. Davis was hit by a pitch. Matt Dean and Boomer Collins were 0-for-4, Mike Reeves was 0-for-3 and Andy Fermin was 0-for-1.

Lansing 6 Clinton 4

Clinton, IA
- A five-run first inning was enough for the Lugnuts to hold off the Mariners affiliate. Richard Urena got things rolling with an RBI double and Ryan McBroom drove in another with a single. Lane Thomas plated the third run with an RBI groundout before Juan Kelly doubled in a run and Chris Carlson walked with the bases loaded in his second at-bat of the first. David Harris scored the other run in the seventh by drawing a leadoff walk before eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Kelly had three hits in this one while Carlson had two in the hit column and one in the walk column. Harris reached twice with a hit and a free pass. Josh Almonte walked twice and Alex Maldonado walked once. D.J. Davis had a hit in five trips to the plate. Thomas walked and stole a base but was 0-for-4.

Clinton Hollon
came one out away from qualifying for the win. He pitched 4-2/3 innings of one-run ball with that run being unearned. He gave up five hits and hitter a batter but his K-BB totals were two apiece. Mark Biggs (4-3) stranded a runner but gave up a run on four hits over 2-1/3 innings. He finished with 3 K's. Phil Kish had an unearned run out of the two he allowed on two hits and a walk but also struck out three in 1-2/3 innings. Carlos Ramirez could only strand one of the two runners he inherited by giving up a hit but did strike out the last batter he faced.

Vancouver 7 Everett 6

Vancouver, BC - The C's fell behind 4-0 to the Mariners affiliate in the first inning for the second time in the series but they managed to fight back and win this one in a walk-off. Sean Hurley came through with a double to center field to bring in Ryan Hissey, who scored all the way from first base after getting hit by a pitch. Hurley helped start the combeback by singling home a Ryan Metzler base hit, which plated an Andrew Guillotte leadoff walk. Hurley, Metzler and Guillotte all stole bases to help the C's cut the deficit to 4-2. Hurley and Metzler also stole bases during the first-inning rally. J.C Cardenas doubled home a run to score Connor Panas from first after he was plunked in the fourth. Panas managed to shake off the HBP with a two-run double to tie up the game at 5-5 in the fifth. The C's had to battle back again in the sixth when Andrew Guillotte singled and scampered home on a wild pitch to even things up at 6-6. Hurley had a three-hit night and also drew a walk. Cardenas was 2-for-2 with a walk but was replaced by Gunnar Heidt at short. Hissey had a hit and two walks and Guillotte also got aboard three times with a hit, a walk and a plunk. Kevin Garcia got a base hit but Justin Atkinson was 0-for-5 and Carl Wise was 0-for-4.

Earl Burl III pinch-ran for Garcia but did not score. Josh Reavis replaced Garcia behind the plate but did not get an at-bat.

Turner Lee (1-0) gave the C's a chance to win with 3-1/3 hitless innings of relief, with a hit by pitch as his only blemish. Michael Kraft was given the start in this one after Jon Wandling was called up to Lansing and only got four outs while giving up four runs, including a home run to Mariners prospect Alex Jackson. He yielded four hits with a 2-2 K/BB total before turning the ball over to another lefty, Daniel Young. He stranded tow runners for Kraft but was dinged for a solo home run among three hits and two walks over 2-1/3 innings. Ryan Cook stranded two runners for Young in his Vancouver debut but he was charged with a run on two hits and two walks while whiffing one.

Pulaski 7 Bluefield 0 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)

Pulaski, WV

D.J. McKnight had the lone hit for Bluefield and also drew a walk. Yeltsin Gudino, Christian Williams, Matt Morgan and Dave Pepe also earned bases on balls. Going 0-for-3 were Rodrigo Orozco, Deiferson Barreto, Gabriel Clark and Freddy Rodriguez.

Grayson Huffman could not strand any of the three runners but did pitch three scoreless frames of two-hit ball, walking one and striking out one. John Kravetz was jolted for two runs on three hits and a walk but struck out two in the seventh.

Jacob Anderson
's RBI double in the fourth and an Aaron Attaway walk with the bases loaded in the seventh was all Bluefield could muster. Anderson had two of the four Jays hits while Juan Tejada and Dean Bell supplied the others. Attaway and Nick Sinay had a couple of walks each with Sinay stealing a base. Andres Sotillo and Mattingly Romanin also worked the count to ball four. Gabriel Clark and D.J. McKnight were both 0-for-3.

GCL Blue Jays 4 GCL Pirates 3 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)

Dunedin, FL - The Jays rallied for three runs in their final at-bat to pull this one out of the fire. Nash Knight knocked home the winning run in the sixth inning with a single to score Levi Scott, who had doubled in the first two runs to tie things up. The first run came in the first when Reggie Pruitt singled, went to second on a Lance Jones bunt, stole third on a Jake Thomas strikeout and continued on home after a throwing error by the catcher. Owen Spiwak had the only other base hit. Jones, Thomas and Danny Jansen all heard ball four once. Bryan Lizardo and Juandy Mendoza were 0-for-2.

Scott Silverstein surrendered three runs on five hits, including a home run, over two innings but struck out three without walking anyone. Kalik May and Andrew Florides both earned free passes. Nash Knight was 0-for-3 and Miguel Almonte was 0-for-2. Reggie Pruitt and Robert Lucido had unsuccesful pinch-hit apperances.

Hansel Rodriguez went the first four innings and held the Bucs to a run on five hits and a walk while striking out five and inducing three groundball outs. Nate Abel (2-0) was more than able as he pitched a three-hitter over three frames, picked off a runner and struck out one. He collected four outs on the ground.

DSL Blue Jays 10 DSL Reds 6

Boca Chica, DR
- It was a see-saw affair in which the Jays saw leads of 3-0 and 5-3 disappear but were trailing 6-5 until they erupted for five runs in the seventh. Yorman Rodriguez put the Jays in the lead for good with a two-run single. Sam Buelens also had a two-run knock and Manuel Herazo finished off the scoring with an RBI single. Ben Rowen has allowed zero runs in his past 13.1 innings.  Nine strikeouts and one walk in that period.  He and Tepera are nice depth to have, in case of injury to a Jays reliever.

rumor is that Greene was promoted to AA?

big move if true.

AY, not so sure wells is a big loss - hasn't done much since signing, and the review of the trade I read on Fangraphs (couldn't find the exact quote, sorry) basically called Wells the best of a bad bunch and 'not so much of a lottery ticket as a ticket for the local church fifty-fifty draw' ....

I took in the Rochester Buffalo doubleheader and would like to add the following two highlights.
1) Ryan Tepera struck out rehabbing top prospect Byron Buxton on three pitches. 95, 95, 96. Fun.
2) Greg Burke is a sidearmer, but Ben Rowan is a true submariner. Pitches from his ankles. Fun.

hey doom service, I'm hoping to see some action in Buffalo before the end of the year - any tips?

Hmm. Apparently you can buy tickets at the duty free store. I wish I'd known this beforehand. The park is easy to find, nearby parking is ample (for $5). Food is a bit pricey and a bit disappointing, but I'd say the same thing about the Rogers Centre. Overall it's a nice facility -- though I still prefer Rochester among nearby AAA venues.

If you buy tickets on the third base side, you can see the Bisons bullpen down the rightfield line, and watch relievers warm up. (Or you can choose the first base side and stand over them as they warm up.) The scoreboard lists pitch velocity, which I find helpful. Attendance is usually sparse enough that you can buy just about any ticket and move around the park, with encountering overzealous ushers.

a ticket for the local church fifty-fifty draw

I can't say I spend lots of time in church, but the only place I see regular fifty-fifty draws are Little League tournaments. The jackpot gets close to a thousand at the Canadian Championships currently held down the street.
