The farm affilliates took a good beating yesterday, with only Dunedin putting up much of a fight.

Durham 7 Syracuse 2

The Bulls trampled the Sky Chiefs behind homers from B.J. Upton and Jorge Cantu and fine pitching from Dewon Brazelton. Durham broke out to an early 7-0 lead, before the Sky Chiefs scored their runs in the seventh without the benefit of a hit. Josue Matos started for the Chiefs and was hit hard. The box score was not available at writing.

Game story

Portland 5 New Hampshire 1

New Hampshire fell 5-1 to Portland. The Fisher Cats scored their only run in the 1st inning . Tyrell Godwin singled, stole second, advanced to third on Dominic Rich's single and scored on a sacrifice fly by John-Ford Griffin. Cam Reimers allowed 2 runs in the top of the second on two hits, a walk, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch, and the Sea Dogs were never headed after that. Reimers' line was respectable: 5 innings pitched, 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. Brandon League pitched 3 innings and gave up a 2 run homer in the eighth. John Ogiltree pitched a scoreless ninth. Aaron Hill went 2-3, and was the only Fisher Cat with 2 hits.

Game story

Lakeland 7 Dunedin 4

Dunedin rallied late to tie the game 4-4 (and deny Kyle Sleeth the win), but 3 Lakeland runs in the bottom of the eighth off Tommi Ozuna and Robert Nunley were the difference. Raul Tablado, in his first game back since returning from the disabled list, singled in a run in the first and then hit a game-tying 2 run homer in the top of the 8th. Neomar Flores started for the D-Jays and was hit hard: 5.1 IP, 10 hits, 4 earned runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Chad Pleiness held the Tigers at bay in the 6th and 7th. Big Vito reached base 3 times in 4 plate appearances. Rodney Medina singled and walked, and Jayce Tingler doubled in 5 PAs. Sleeth pitched 6 strong innings, but not quite as strong as Josh Banks had been for Dunedin the night before.

Box Score

Lake County 9 Charleston 3

David Smith's 2 homers accounted for all the Charleston runs in a 9-3 blowout loss to Lake County. Danny Core gave up 2 runs in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd inning, and for all intents and purposes that was the ball game. Core's line for the evening was 4 innings pitched, 6 runs of which 2 were unearned, 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Davis Romero pitched 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. Marcos Sandoval and Brad Esarey finished the game and were each touched for runs in one inning of work. Ryan Roberts went 0-3 with a walk.

Box Score

Your three star selection
Third Star-Davis Romero, there was not much to choose and so two perfect innings in a blowout will get you a star on this day.
Second Star-David Smith for 2 homers and providing all of Charleston's offence.
First Star-Raul Tablado for a key homer to make a game of it for the D-Jays.

Still no box score for the Chiefs game yesterday, wonder what happened to it. Anyone?
Hopefully Rosario will bounce back from his shaky performance last time out. Also, good to see Hill continuing to play well after his slow start, he is proving that the decision to start him at AA wasn't a bad choice. With Adams good performance of late and Roberts doing well (Rich not doing badly either), the middle infield in the minors is looking really strong.
_Sneeps - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 01:25 PM EDT (#60835) #
Just turned on the New Hampshire game, and Rosario is getting hammered. 3-0 Portland, with bases loaded and none out I think. I'm pretty sure it's the bottom of the 1st.

Rosario just left the game due to "discomfort".
_Sneeps - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 01:48 PM EDT (#60837) #
Rosario, in my opinion, is bullpen material.

Dunedin up 3-0 in the third inning. So far Harper has allowed one hit while his teamates have six. They are supposed to take him 85 pitches today, but it is in the mid 90's down there. Heat could play a factor.
_Thorn - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 02:57 PM EDT (#60839) #
In the fourth, Dunedin up 3-0. Does Rosario scare any of you as a full time starter?
_Thorn - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 03:32 PM EDT (#60840) #
3-1 in favor of Dunedin in the sixth. Dunedin has committed 2 errors so far. Don't know if Harper's run is earned or unearned. AA team is having a rough time today. Rosario and Houston both having terrible days.
_Sneeps - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 05:07 PM EDT (#60841) #
If anybody gets any info on Rosario please pass it along. I fear the worst for him right now.
_Thorn - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 05:36 PM EDT (#60842) #
Dunedin wins 7-1. The guys hit the ball well and Harper had another good outing. That brings him to 3-0 with 18k's over 18 innings with 4 walks. Don't believe that Florida hitters pose much problem for him.
_goatboy - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 06:17 PM EDT (#60843) #
Rosario is been having problems with his biceps muscel in his arm all year, but he has been checked out and there is nothing structurally wrong. The same thing happen to him in Dunedin as has happened in New Hampshire, two good starts followed by two poor and Rosario complaining of discomfort. He did end up missing two starts before coming back, making two more starts before the promotion to the Fisher Cats. The bottom line is Rosario is not complete healthy and hasn't been for most of the year. Before we assign him full time to the bull pen, lets let him get healthy and then make the judgement as to where he is best suited to pitch.
_goatboy - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 06:30 PM EDT (#60844) #
If Rosario does have to go on the DL, we can once again drag out the Josh Banks promotion rumors.
_goatboy - Sunday, May 30 2004 @ 06:35 PM EDT (#60845) #
Raul Tablado it's good to see you back in action. Tablado has 8 at bats since coming off the DL and all he has done is go 4 for 8 with 2 doubles 1 home run and 5 RBI's

I'd like to see Banks promotion as much as anybody, but I'm looking for some solid documentation saying he's been promoted. These Banks been promoted posts with nothing to say where they got the information just doesn't cut it for me.
_goatboy - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 09:42 AM EDT (#60855) #
Thanks Mike, at last documentation!
Gerry - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 10:03 AM EDT (#60856) #
Goatboy, many people know about transactions before they are officially announced. Some posters here may be friends or relatives of Blue Jay players.

Josh Banks was in New Hampshire yesterday. He probably left Dunedin on Saturday. Derek Lee was injured and NH needed a starter to take his place. My point is that there are probably close to a hundred people, both in Florida and New Hampshire, who knew of the transaction 24 hours before it was announced. One or two of them posted here. They are not going to say "Josh told me" or my brother "XXX" on the team told me. Challenging them to prove something drives them away. Take rumours as that, rumours, and build a pattern for the poster. If they get it wrong then you discount but if you watch these posts carefully, you know some posters do have inside information and what they post is likely true.
_Jordan - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 04:22 PM EDT (#60857) #
100% agreed, Gerry -- thanks.
_goatboy - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 06:32 PM EDT (#60858) #
I think I have a legitimate complaint with a post that says " Banks has been promoted" . It doesn't matter to me if you are on a first name with everybody in the Jays organization, you need to back up your claims. I'm going to include a perfect example of why you need to back up your claims. What about that ridiculous rumor that got started on the batters box that had Carlos Delagdo traded for an non
existant player. We need documentation to prevent this from happening
_Rob - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 06:55 PM EDT (#60859) #
The Delgado trade talk was not started here; ESPN Radio or some place in LA started that one.
_goatboy - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 07:03 PM EDT (#60860) #
Rob you are right the rumor did not start here but it was spread here.
Which is why I am suggesting documention/proof of the post be included.
_Rob - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 07:09 PM EDT (#60861) #
I still agree with Gerry. If the poster gets a few things right, then you start paying attention to him/her. If he's way off, ignore him.
_goatboy - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 07:35 PM EDT (#60862) #
Rob you know why I was bothered by that post. I spent time going from web site to web site looking for infomation on this promotion only to find none. Look at it this way, someone tells you something, yet you can find no information what so ever to confirm what you have been told. It can be very annoying.
_Rob - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 08:08 PM EDT (#60863) #
Yeah, I know what you mean, goatboy. It can be annoying sometimes.

Goatboy:

Let's say I meet JP Ricciardi in the mens room and he says to me "we will promote Bush to make a start on Saturday but you cannot say that I told you". I have a choice, I can (a) post it as unattributed but people know that when I post something I am right; or (b) I can keep it to myself. You want me to keep it to myself. Others want me to tell them what I know because they know I get information. I have a Jays minor league player site (COMN). I have received email from friends and family of maybe 20 players, the site attracts attention.

You challenged Banks sister (If thats who she was) and she identified herself. Earlier in the season someone challenged a source who I know was related to a player. The source said screw you and went away. For all we know the Jays might have called Banks in today and said tell your sister to keep quiet. We can either have a legal quality board here where everything is challenged and everything has to be proven, or we allow people to post information they get from "sources". If they are wrong get after them, if they are right, as I was, give them some credit.

Next time I get something I will start the post with "Goatboy don't read this".

I posted on the weekend that Banks was promoted. You called me out but I was right.
_Jonny German - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 10:28 PM EDT (#60865) #
Nicely put Gerry. I agree.
_Sneeps - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 10:30 PM EDT (#60866) #
I agree. Goatboy, if you don't believe it that's fine, but don't go out of your way to call them out. Either just wait to see if it's true, or ignore them completely.

Like Gerry said, remember the names of people who post rumours, and let their track record speak for them after a while. That's the best way to go about it in my opinion.

There is no sense in scaring away posters that could have credible information for us.
_goatboy - Monday, May 31 2004 @ 11:08 PM EDT (#60867) #
Re: You called me out but I was right

Gerry you said I called you out. What I said was I hoped it was true.
I then proceded to ask you where you found this information, It does not require you to name names, there are ways of be informative without giving away sources.

Re: You challenged Banks sister (If thats who she was) and she identified herself

I not sure whats wrong with my comments here either, there was a post that claimed Banks had been a starter since high school. I commented that the poster should check thier information becuase Banks was a reliever in University not a starter intill his final year. I also asked the poster what made them reliable source, a claim they made on one of their posts

Gerry I think what's bothering me most right know is you clearly value some posters Bluejay family members and other so called insiders, over your ever days posters.

I'll close Gerry with this final comment if you are petty enough to need to give the disclaimer about me not reading one of your posts, knock yourself out.

I also asked the poster what made them reliable source, a claim they made on one of their posts

I think this is the objectionable part. If someone claims to have inside info just wait until it is or is not confirmed before confronting them. Why? Because the information that turns out to be true is a greater benefit to us than the harm done by information that turns out to be false. As such, we at Batter's Box value these inside sources and do not want them to go away for fear of harrassment.

The above is now the official position of the Batter's Box consensus.
