I think that headline makes sense. If it doesn't, blame computers. As you can tell (or not), the Auburn Doubledays lost game one of their NY-Penn League final to the Staten Island Yankees.

Bobby Ray got the call in Game 1 and pitched well, aside from the third inning. And even in that frame, back-to-back errors led to all three runs being declared unearned. His final line was 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HR. The homer was a solo shot in the fourth.

Orlando Trias did give up a couple of runs in the top of the ninth which put the game away (6-1 the final, 4-1 before the ninth), but with only one run from the offense, it would be silly to expect a shutout from the pitching staff.

The only run came in the bottom of the sixth when Brian Bormaster singled home Jacob Butler, who doubled. The offense didn't do much; apparently, Staten Island has the best pitching staff in the NY-P league. Don't quote me on that.

Auburn plays a must-win game tonight at 7:10 pm at the Ballpark in St. George, which I assume is close to Staten Island in some way.

It's too bad you didn't get to call a championship win, #2JB -- it is quite fun.
