Marcum had a spectacular game last night; I don't have a picture of him.  But I do have a picture of the guy who called that great game -- Jason Phillips:

The good news is that we see more Jason Phillips next year.

The bad news is that he's getting laser eye surgery.

Hey, it worked out okay for the Cat...

'course, I'd never have it done myself, and I use my eyes for a living...

I was privileged to attend with Mr. and Mrs. Hank last night and we got to talking after the game about how little credit a catcher usually gets for calling a great game.  Phillips helped bring Marcum every inch of the way yesterday and played a great game.

There's no question in my mind now, though, that he's slower than Bengie.  Bengie would have made it into second easier than Phillips did on his double.

Phillips has been a great signing, he's a nice guy, and has hit lefties well and has gotten some timely hits. I'd be confident in him for a double down the line in a clutch situation (hey, he got the ball rolling last night), and I'd be very pleased with a Zaun and Phillips combo for next year. THis is the kind of depth that I hope JP does at the other positions next year, cheap, effective. Bravo!
