Meh.  Four hits given up over 5 IP so far: a bunt single, single, single, then the homerun which turned into a 3 run shot because of the 2 walks.  It looks like he's settled down and that he's not pitching as poorly as his line thus far suggests.

Well today was a crappy day, but at least the line on McGowan was a good one.

IP6 H3 1ER 3BB 5SO 90 Pitches, ERA 1.64

I believe he would have headed out for the 7th but it was raining.  Instead they sent out Kemp who promptly allowed the tying run in and was charged with the loosing run.  Bad day for Blue Jay/Syracuse bullpens!  Syracuse’s pen coughed up the lead in the first game of the double header as well.

Purcey's final line for the day wasn't as encouraging.

IP 5.1 6H 6ER 2BB 4S0

It's nice to see MKGowan finish 6 innings, that's another step in the right direction.  I'd like to see the walks down a bit, but you can get away with walking 3 when you only allow 3 hits.  A WHIP of 1.00 is always good.

Purcey was on a roll, but it happens to the everyone.  I think he'll bounce back in his next start.

I don't see too much wrong with Purcey's outing today. He wasn't as insanely sharp as the previous two, but he won't do that every time out. A little bit of Dave Bushitis if you ask me. In the first there's a bunt single, a groundout and a line drive single to score a run. In the third he gives up the longball after his only 2 walks of the day (talk about paying through the nose for your mistakes). He then rebounds to strike out the final hitter of the inning and begin a streak of seven straight hitters retired. Then in the sixth, he gives up a single and a double to open up the inning and gives up a run on a groundout and gets lifted. Subsequently, the final symptom of Dave Bushitis rears its ugly head as Justin James comes in and craps the bed. Game over. 7 ground outs to 4 fly outs. 4 strikeouts to 2 walks. 6 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings. On another day, he might have only given up two or three runs, but when you've got Dave Bushitis, there's not much you can do except to say: "We'll get 'em next time."

The key with Purcey is the walk column.  Two walks in 5.1 innings is not great, but nothing at all to worry about.  If he has his control, he has the stuff to succeed.

Oh, and John Thomson had a nice rehab outing in the FSL  tonight- no walks and five strikeouts in 7 innings.
