The #BlueJays affiliates won three out of eight Tuesday. Buffalo's game was rained out. Monday saw the affiliates go 3-4. #LetsGoBlueJays

Just going to quickly recap the last two games in Vancouver. Not a great night for Adam Kloffenstein. He didn't have a strikeout in his four innings of work, serving up a two-run home run two batters into the game. The ball was just out of the reach of McGregory Contreras in left field. Contreras appeared to jam a foot into the chain linked fence and came away limping but he stayed in the game. Nicolas Medina had his best outing for the C's with four shutout frames and Luke Gillingham finished up with a shutout ninth. The C's nearly came back from a 6-0 deficit. Davis Schneider, who has been scuffling at the plate, got a two-run double in the eighth to make it a one-run game. Ronny Brito had a good game at the plate with a hit and.a walk and made a couple of nice plays on his backhand at short.

The Canada Day game saw Burlington, Ontario native Alex Nolan almost pick up the win but the Hops spoiled the party as North York, Ontario native Andy Yerzy singled off Andy McGuire to key a four-run rally to win 6-3. After Yerzy's single, McGuire plunked the next two hitters and the 18-wheeler was on its way off the cliff. Langley, BC native Jake Polancic was the winning pitcher. Ryan Sloniger managed to clear the big right field wall with a solo home run that gave the C's a 3-2 lead. The C's had scored two runs previous in the same inning that Sloniger homered in but a Contreras double play killed what could have been a bigger inning.

The C's have made some roster moves involving pitchers. Add Luis Quinones from Bluefield and Mike Pascoe from Lansing. Adams Cuevas goes down to Bluefield. Dominic Abbadessa has been placed on the IL after colliding with the Spokane catcher over the weekend at first base. Abbadessa reached base on an errant throw but went around too far and he smacked into the catcher who was diving to tag him out at the bag.

I was watching the C's game on TV and I saw Abbadessa collide with the catcher. It looked like the catchers shoulder caught Abbadessa on the chin. I am not surprised he is on the IL.

Pompey rehabbing with GCL today. 0-2 with two strikeouts so far but also hasn't gotten injured yet.

Demi Orimoloye has been named FSL player of the month for June. hitting .342 with a 1.051 OPS.

Demi had a good month. Hagen Danner also had a good month - finally taking walks while still hitting for power. At bats have looked better, and actually looks solid when in at 1B (I think he's way too physically big to remain at C anyway). Still has to get that strikeout rate down, but it's progress.

Conine has a ridiculous .450 BABIP.

I also wonder how they're going to find ABs for Christopher Bec. They should at least get him DHing more when he isn't catching. He was a 5th rounder for us last year, walked a lot, stole 16 bases, then gets promoted all the way to Dunedin this year and has shown more of the same with even better numbers (and averaging 1 SB for every 2 games played). It just seems weird to me to not have him take some ABs away from Clemens.

Guys like Bec shouldn't really be viewed as 5th rounders though - he was a senior sign, 5K bonus, 350K and change below slot.  We do seem to have had success with a bunch of guys in these situations - Kendall Graveman and Cal Stevenson both got 5K bonuses as top ten picks.  I often wonder if we have a list of senior 'prospects' that we target - I don't imagine we'd have the success we have had on these 'punted' picks otherwise.

Stevenson earned himself prospect status quickly but he had an OPS of over 1000 in 2018- albeit in the GCL, whereas Bec was at .716 in Vancouver.  Bec is almost a year older, but he is out OPSing his Dunedin teammate Stevenson by 40 points this year, and he's got those crazy SB numbers.  He's not going to play over Kirk though

I guess what I'm saying is that these two guys are more similar than you might think, but Stevenson is younger and has twice the ABs in his career.   I don't know about his receiving skills, but if they are solid and he keeps hitting, he should enter prospect conversations by the end of the season.  And I agree that he should be getting DH ABs over Clemens.

Yeah, and my argument really is that good performance should be rewarded. There's a lot we don't see and there's a lack of transparency in the process, but because of how well he is playing, I just think players like that should be given more chances. He's looked good in the games I've watched.

Zeuch might be our second best starting option right now, sigh...
Kel, I'm with you, once they start playing the games, I don't care so much what the scouts think.  some guys are going to overperform, Bec's getting on base and his stolen base numbers are pretty unique.
You watched him on TV?  How does he look as a catcher?

Danner is 6'2 210 lbs.
The best catcher in the AL this decade has been Salvador Perez.
He's 6'4", 240lbs.

Buffalo is using a variant of the MLB juiced balls this year.
It also happens that pitchers are dominating in the Eastern League but that hitters are running wild in the International League.

EL. Leader has 17 HRs.
IL, Leader has 24 HRs, 11 players with 17 HRs or more.

hypobole - Wednesday, July 03 2019 @ 06:14 PM EDT (#376582) #
What I heard is the AAA balls aren't variants, they are exactly the same as MLB balls.

Pearson came out in mid 2nd at 28 pitches.......re-injured?

"Pearson came out in mid 2nd at 28 pitches.......re-injured?"

No pretty sure he hit his pitch limit, he had some long at bats, had 2 runners on and 1 out in the second and then got a flyball that should have been an out and Palacios, playing CF, took a horrible route and it went for a triple. Then they pulled him, announcers assumed he was lifted just due to pitch count as he was only scheduled for 2 today.

Jer, I haven't managed to catch enough of Bec's actual catching since Dunedin games are the hardest to get a feed of.

Vancouver Canadians drop to 5-15...ouch.
