The Jays sent several of their pitching prospects to the mound yesterday. Things didn't work out as expected and all the affiliates lost. Nick Allgeyer, Adam Kloffenstein and Sem Robberse were hit around while Simeon Woods Richardson did a little better. Here is your abbreviated long weekend update.

Buffalo 4 Worcester 7

Portland 7 New Hampshire 6

Vancouver 3 Hillsboro 8

Dunedin 3 Clearwater 5

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

Nick Allgeyer hadn't pitched much in the last ten days plus he had to handle the disappointment of being called up to the majors and not getting to pitch. Allgeyer gave up six runs in four innings including three home runs allowed.

The Bisons had only six hits. Christian Colon had half of them and is now hitting .400. Colon has played parts of five seasons in MLB with out ever getting an etended run. I am not sure of this performance gets him another shot but he is leading the Bisons offensively'

New Hampshire had a 6-3 lead headed to the ninth. Brady Rodning gave up four runs to take the loss. Simeon Woods Richardson threw five decent innings. In five innings he allowed three runs on five hits. He K's eight and threw 88 pitches,

The Fisher Cats had just three hits. Samad Taylor and Chavez Young each hit two run home runs. Otto Lopez had one hit that drove in a run. Gabriel Moreno and Austin Martin were hitless.

The Hops scored seven runs off Adam Kloffenstein in three innings. Lazaro Estrada threw two perfect innings. Hagen Danner who blew a save his last time out, threw three innings, striking out six.

Cameron Eden was 2-4. DJ Neal also had two hits. Davis Schneider hit his first home run of the season.

Sem Robberse just pitched two innings but conceded three runs. The best pitcher was Gabriel Ponce who threw two shutout innings. This was hit fourth appearance in a row without allowing a run and his ERA since opening day has been reduced from 60.75 to 7.71.

The Jays had five hits. Orelvis Martinez and Tanner Morris each doubled.

Three Stars

Third Star - Christian Colon

Second Star - Samad Taylor

First Star - Chavez Young

Hagen Danner was stretched out to 3 innings last night, it will be interesting if they give him a shot as a starter or if he is fast tracked as a reliever.

Danner is already rule 5 eligible.
There is basically no way to develop him as a starter without an other team grabbing him, assuming he's any good.

Danner probably gets added in Nov for rule 5 protection. Danner never pitched as a pro so A+ is a good place to start. He is 8 months younger than Manoah. He has hit 1 batter in 3 of 5 games. Pitched well so far. 3IP 54 pitches last night, not bad I suppose.

Many good performances so far from many prospects old and young. Cannot ignore dominating performances.

I have taken a shine to Ohashi. He pitches today. Hoping for 3/4 innings and 70 pitches.

They can't just add guys if they're not planning to call them up within months.
Obviously, top prospects are exceptions but Danner is not that.
Would you add Danner rather than Pardinho?
Once Pearson and Manoah graduate, Pardinho will be close to the Jays top 10 and on everybody's radar.

Now that Allgeyer has been added, the next candidate is Joe Murray.

Good question scottt. I will wait until Nov. Your logic is good.

It's hard to judge relievers over a handful of appearances.

Let's look at AAA.

Tice has only thrown 1 inning. No hits, 2 walks, 0 strikeout. Meh.
Curtis Taylor has 3 shutdown innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts. Hmm.
Kirby Snead has over 8 shutdown innings, 5 hits, 4 walks and 10 strikeouts. Not bad.
Taylor Saucedo has over 10 shutdown innings, 6 hits, 1 walk and 13 strikeouts. That is actually good.
Carl Edwards Jr. has 3 shutdown innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 1 strikeout. Ok.
James Dysktra has less than 3 innings, 1 hits, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts. Needs work.
Beasley has less than 3 innings, 0 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts. From his MLB work, I'd say he needs to improve his control.
Bryan Baker has less than 8 innings, no earned runs, 3 hits, 4 walks and 12 strikeouts. Hmm.
Hobie Harris, the guy lifted from the Yankees, has over 7 innings, 2 earned runs on 2 home runs, 7 hits, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts. Supposed to throw hard. Maybe too hittable?
Jackson McClelland, the guys who throws 100mph, 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs on 2 home runs, 0 walks, only 6 strikeouts. Maybe needs to work on his secondary stuff?
Jackson Rees, a guy who really seem to mix it, less than 3 innings, 2 hits, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts.
Dany Jimenez, the guy who got returned twice, over 7 innings, 6 earned runs, 9 hits, 4 homeruns!, 2 walks and 13 strikeouts. Needs more time to find it.

Simeon Woods Richardson has been named to the team USA roster for the Olympic Qualifying tournament. Will McAffer from the C's roster was named to Canada's team.

Very depressing night for the Jays from top to bottom. Thank goodness for the Leafs. The worst part wasn't mentioned, because it has nothing to do with the Jays, but very much with one of our rivals.

The guy who did the major damage against Allgeyer and the Bisons was Jaren Duran. As bad as Boston has been hitting on pitchers in the draft, they've hit on multiple picks taking underappreciated hitters. Mookie in the 5th round prime example. Espinal isn't great, but he is great for a 10th round $50K sign. Now it's 7th rounder Duran who seems to be turning into a Mookie-lite.

Patrick Murphy pitched an inning and a third, 21 pitches, for Dunedin today.

Elvis Luciano left the Fisher Cats game in the first inning. He appeared to strain his oblique or lower back. He reached for his side/back after throwing a pitch.

If I have to choose between developing Danner or Luciano on the 40 man, I would probably go with Danner at this point. It is also time for Murphy to be promoted to the majors, and I don’t see Merryweather heading back to the minors either.
