NOTES

Ernie Clement had a day. 5-5, two run home run, three runs scored. Clement is 27 years old and has 312 major league plate appearances. In those appearances he has hit .204. Buy maybe at 27 he has found something new. Davis Schneider was 3-5 with his sixth home run and a double and three runs driven in. Schneider, like many Jays, got off to a slow start but he has a 821 OPS in May. Tanner Morris, another slow starter, also had three hits and three RBI.

Addison Barger went on the IL two weeks ago. The injury was described as minor so he should be back soon.

In New Hampshire Dylan Rock and Zac Cook each hit their second home runs of the season, both were two run shots. They also singled. Orelvis Martinez doubled in the second inning, it was his first double of the season. This season he has 14 hits, 9 home runs, one triple, one double and three singles. That is a strange mix.

Troy Watson got a four out save. His strikeout numbers are not great, 9 in 12.2 IP, but his WHIP is just over 1.0.

Hunter Gregory started for Vancouver, pitched an inning, and then left the game. Cooper Benson, who may have been surprised to be called on to pitch, gave up six runs in the second inning. Only two of them were earned due to a Doughty error. He went on to give up six more over the next two innings with two of those earned as well. Final tally for Benson, 12 runs, 4 earned. Three errors for the C's in the game. Emulating the big league team I guess.

Devonte Brown homered, added a single and drove in three runs. Rainer Nunez was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI. His average is up to .310.

In Dunedin, Glenn Santiago picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk in the first inning and doubled in two more in the second inning. The D Jays scored six runs with five hits.

Eliander Alcalde had a nice start, six innings, four hits, one run, six K's.

Thought Ernie Clement having more HR's (5) than K's (4) was something special, but I guess not. Barry Bonds in 2004 and George Brett in 1980 both did it over a full season.

Hey hyperbole, you noted it, it was in yesterday's thread. I didn't need to repeat it again, its your observation. I assume people read the comments. These threads are a two or more person discussion, I didn't want to take it from you.

Gerry, the comment was not meant for you. I am no Magpie. I don't know baseball history very well and I forget things. It wasn't until I looked it up I remembered the Bonds 2004 season. And as Mike pointed out, DiMaggio and Williams did it. It was actually not that uncommon before the 1957 season I found out.

My comment was a bit self-deprecating for not knowing history and an attempt at humour lumping Ernie Clement together with Bonds and Brett.

Off day for the farm today, so I was wondering about the playoff possibility for Vancouver.

The North West League has 6 teams and there are 2 halves to the season. I am assuming the following because I cannot remember a lot of stuff. 4 teams make the playoffs? 1st and 2nd place in each half.

If my assumption is correct Vancouver is in a good position at the moment to claim a spot because of their good 1st half play. Therefore maybe "hold back" on promotions if the priority is a 1st half playoff goal. I have no idea how accurate my speculation is but I have been a bit anxious to see Trenton Wallace and Chad Dallas promoted to AA. I will just wait for sooner or later promotions and not think about that too much.

I feel like Vlad senior took a run at that k/hr stat one year in Mtl. He obviously fell short but I can't recall how deep into the season he got.

2021 draft pick Gunnar Hoglund has only pitched 8 innings and all in 2022. He probably gets an extra option but Oakland got so little value it seems. I actually don't mind if our traded prospects do well.

Just noticed the worst qualified in the 20 team IL with a 28 wRC+ is Otto Lopez, who has had a brutal start. But not much better at 47 wRC+ is Jordan Groshans.
So this regime has drafted 3 1st round position players, the others being Warmoth who is back in AA with a 90 wRC+ and Martin who had an 89 wRC+ repeating AA last year and may miss all this year with injury. So no more success than AA drafts of Pentacost, Davis and Jake Anderson.

The draft history of this regime for position players is poor. They struck gold with Bichette and, to a lesser extent, Biggio in 2016 but since then, Riley Adams and Ryan Noda represent the high water mark of their position player picks. Outside of the 2022 draft crop (which its too early to draw firm conclusions on but are definitely looking shaky), the only semi interesting position player pick in the system is Dasan Brown. Thankfully, their picks on the mound have been better.

I know he had a bad start and then got hurt, but Addison Barger is still "semi-interesting", at least.

Ryan - you are correct. I'd forgotten about Barger and he's at least semi-interesting, although I think I'm probably the low man around here on Barger as a viable prospect.

To be fair on the position drafting issue:

The 2022 draft picks are fresh out of the box
In 2021 they took one position player in the first 11 picks
In 2020, they only had 5 picks, and 2 were position players (Martin and Britton)

Orelvis with 2 HR's. That 8 this month in his 13th game.

Chad Dallas and Connor Cooke have been promoted to New Hampshire. Rafael Sanchez has been promoted to Vancouver.
