I suppose I should have written this piece when the whole brouhaha about the Frank Thomas commercial was going on. Unfortunately I didn't think of it until just now.

Billie's Bashers, the Burlington Mazters and Cripplers of Ellington lead the way as the BBFL season starts to round into shape. Things are close in Barfield and Carter with half a dozen teams within a big week of the top, not so much in Alomar as the Bashers and Austin Senators have opened a little distance over a pack being led by the Fish Candy, who have started strong despite being sabotaged by the Yahoo auto-picker on draft day.

The Blue Jays take a .500 record into their last April game. Roy Halladay will try to end the month on a winning note before the team heads out on a six game road trip.

Home runs played a big part in a minor league sweep Sunday.  Sergio Santos hit his sixth to help New Hampshire win a game in Portland.  For Dunedin Kyle Phillips hit two home runs to tie the game and Jacob Butler hit a go-ahead home run to help the D-Jays to victory.   Matt Liuzza, Brian Pettway and Josh Bell homered for the Lugnuts.  Ty Taubenheim's best start of the year kept the Chiefs in the game until Russ Adams helped win it in the tenth.  Jesse Litsch also pitched well while Travis Snider had four hits to pump his average to .392.

The roof is open (first time this year), I'm sitting here watching the Rangers take batting practise... got to play it, might as well win it.

The Chiefs bullpen was fully aligned with its parent yesterday as they blew two saves.  The Lansing fielders didn't give the bullpen a chance to blow the game, eight errors blew the game before the bullpen could.  Dqavid Purcey had his worst start of the season.  Dunedin won behind John Thompson.  Travis Snider had three more hits.

Today was a day wherein Brian Tallet pitched in an extremely high-leverage situation.

Today was a day wherein a pitcher with a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio was pulled from the rotation and replaced with one with a career 1.3:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Today was a day wherein Matt Stairs pinch-ran, and Jason Smith pinch-hit.

The highlight of the night was a rain out in Syracuse.

The CP reports that Towers is out of the rotation to be replaced by Victor Zambrano.

Glaus is also set to come off of the DL today.

The Rangers are off to just about the worst start imaginable. They're 8-13, last in the AL West. The good news is that they're 8-13, only 3.5 games out, and they're way, way better than they've played thus far.

I suppose if the Yankees decided they weren't going to score a run off of Burnett it makes sense to save Pettitte for the Red Sox.

It's the hitters this week, but first we get to quickly savour a 3-0 night for the farm affiliates, featuring a 9th inning comeback and 13th inning walk-off homer by Chip Cannon for the Fisher Cats and shutouts in both halves of a Fort Myers-Dunedin doubleheader.

I figured yesterday's rainout was a perfect excuse for me to play hooky. And then I looked at yesterday's results, and duty kicked in.

No one is rooting for him, but Manny Mayorson led the Fisher Cats to victory with the big hit.  The farm affiliates were a perfect 2-0 on the night.

A familiar Yankee ace and a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankee ace who'll be all too familiar all too soon await the Jays in their first visit to the Bronx Zoo.
