The Yankees have won more than enough titles - let another team's fans enjoy the thrill of victory.

The White Sox are playing scared baseball right now. See ya boys, and thanks for the ride of watching the biggest colapse in baseball history

C'mon people. How can it not be the Yankees. Now the people who guy Yankee caps because they look cool can never pull out the "Well, they make the playoffs" excuse everytime they're afraid to say the real reason they bought the cap.

A Jeterless playoffs? Priceless.

Why not the Yankees? Because anybody is better than the Red Sox.

White Sox - three reasons:

- discussion I heard from several news media sources about Scott Posednik for MVP;

- Hawk Harrelson;

- how little ball offense is the reason they are in first;

- bonus fourth reason - Kenny Williams (need I say more).

The White Sox are irritating, but I will never -- I mean never -- prefer the Red Sox and Yankees to them. NY edges Boston by a nose, both in the standings and on my anti-wish list.

I gotta say Yankees. I'm not jealous of them at all, but I can say I am not a fan of the bottomless pit payroll. They have not had a good year and the pitching is probably worse than Toronto's. It is just boring to see the same club winning everything every time because they can spend eleventy billion dollars on players. If the Jays won every year, I'd be bored also.

Did you really just write that the Yankees have not had a good year? The first-place-in-the-AL-East Yankees?

Goodness, what's a good year look like? They can't finish 114-48 EVERY year.

I wouldn't. I wait 12 years to make the playoffs and I don't want to see them win all the time? Gotta disagree.

while I loathe the red sox and yanks I reaaly want the white sox to fail. I have a number of reasons but mainly because I think it will be really funny to watch Ozzy Guillen's reaction. I mean if the white sox blow it then he's probably gonna go into such a rage that he'll turn into the incredible hulk and destroy half of chicago. Homeland security should keep tabs on him. I think ozzy is due to explode

White Sox miss the playoffs. Indians win Central and Bosox grab the wild card again.

I hate both the Yankees and the Red Sox, but hate the Yankees less.

Part of me has to respect the quiet professionalism of players like Matsui, Williams, A-Rod, Posada, Jeter. And the Red Sox annoy me to no end with their "heck aren't we cute and charming the way we keep messing up but somehow still win ballgames!"

We won't get into Red Sox fans.

All of them. I want everybody to miss the playoffs. I'm trying to spread my bitterness as widely as possible.

Has to be the Yankees. I'd be happy to see the White Sox or Indians win the series; those fans have waited long enough for it, but I really, really, really want to see a Yankee-less playoffs this year.

the quiet professionalism...Jeter

There's no quiet professionalism about Jeter in any way shape or form. He's completely overrated and when he gets older, we'll see the mediocre talent that he actually has. His extreme athleticism keeps him afloat but he won't have it forever.

AWeb - Sunday, September 25 2005 @ 09:57 PM EDT (#128864) #
VBF, were you intentionally trying to start another "Jeter is over-rated" vs "Yes, but he's still good" debate? Because that's some serious Jeter-hate coming through.

I don't like him much either, but you seem to blasting him for being athletic while he's young, and hence able to play at a reasonably high level. Damn him and his natural gifts! If he's on the Jays, Jeter is the best hitter this year. Sad, but true.

I don't think many would dispute that he'll get worse as he gets older; him stinking at age 37 won't be proof he wasn't any good, it'll just be normal for most players. Hopefully he'll be an expensive millstone (ala Bernie Williams) around the neck of the Yankees for a few years.

Yea, that post was overly inflammatory. It's just that when I look at his stats this year, I question the hype. They're very good, but with the attention he gets one would expect more. Maybe it's his leadership qualities and hard work ethic which gets him the attention, but for the amount of hype he gets, I just don't see the need for it.
AWeb - Sunday, September 25 2005 @ 11:04 PM EDT (#128870) #
I know where you're coming from with being annoyed at the hype. I mostly follow the Jays on the internet, and so I don't hear from broadcasters much anymore. I assume they still all have serious man-crushes on Jeter. Wait, were the games done by Rod Black this weekend? I definitely recall him driving me insane with constant pro-Yankee chatter last year.

Strangely, what he gets the most credit for (clutchness) is where he does the worst. Career 314/385/461, but with RISP, he's 299/395/417. Most players I've looked at improve, even Wells (who has taken some heat for it this year).
VBF - Sunday, September 25 2005 @ 11:13 PM EDT (#128871) #
It isn't even the man crushes that much. It's this constant blind support of Jeter that people fail to even look at his stats when judging him. Ask a Yankee fan who his favorite is and they're likely to say Jeter. Ask why, and they can't give you much of an answer or at least an answer that seperates Jeter from the rest. I don't think the seperation is as much as people think it is.

These same people are the ones who completely write-off Hinske as a useless piece of garbage, when in fact he's an average hitter with useful assets. People don't care what stats show in these instances--it's an opinion based solely on feel and it does have something to do with the media.

A hard dose of reality would be the perfect prescription for the delusional Yankee Nation. Thats what I am hoping for. And maybe someday Yankee fans will realize that the blue jays and the rest of the AL east ilk aren't THEIR Washington Generals.
