Notes

Casey Lawrence gave up four runs in 5-2/3 innings, finishing an earned run and an out shy of a quality start in which he struck out five. Hayden Juenger got a hold but allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Paul Fry and Jay Jackson were both charged with blown saves with Jackson taking the loss. Wynton Bernard and Otto López had two hits apiece while Tyler Heineman had a base hit in his lone trip to the plate before getting called up to the big club.

Home runs by Nuñez, Alan Roden and Garrett Spain were the highlights for Vancouver's offence with Roden having a two-hit game. Adam Macko was lit up for two home runs and five in total over four innings, surrendering seven hits, one walk and one HBP while striking out three.

Bowden Francis returned tonight and grew 4 innings, giving up one unearned run on 2 hits and 1 walk with 7 Ks. Manoah should get one more start. If he's not right, he should go to the bullpen in long relief with Francis taking his spot.

My understanding is Francis worked very hard at mechanical changes (different arm slot) and added a couple of mph on his fastball. He was excellent the back half of last season (after a disastrous first half), and dominated in winter ball. If there's a chance he can give us 5 innings at anything resembling an average starter, I think we'd take that right now.
