Giving the Tigers a false sense of security before they're swept in next week's four game series at the Rogers Centre, the Jays lost 8-5 to Detroit Thursday afternoon in Lakeland.
Roy Halladay crafted together another fine outing as the Jays beat the Nationals 7-6 in the home finale of the spring season in Dunedin.
The defending World Series Champions may have guaranteed Brad Mills a one way ticket to Las Vegas after a 9-1 bombing of the Jays Tuesday night in Clearwater.
UPDATE April 1/09 @ 12:26 p.m. EDT: Blue Jays assistant GM Alex Anthopoulos tells the FAN 590 that Scott Richmond will be the number five starter in the rotation, Michael Barrett will be the backup catcher, and Kevin Millar is heading to Baseball North as well.
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong.
It's not a lock that it'll be B.J. Ryan charging out of the Rogers Centre bullpen in the ninth to the dulcet tones of Slipknot. Concerns about the big lefty's lack of velocity this spring means he may be sharing the closer's role with fellow southpaw Scott Downs.
UPDATE: 03/31 @ 6:30 P.M. - Jeremy Accardo and Joe Inglett have been demoted to Las Vegas.
One of the final two spots in the Jays starting rotation has been filled as Ricky Romero is packing his bags for Baseball North. That leaves lefty Brad Mills and righty Scott Richmond to battle it out for the number five slot in the rotation.

Canada has been eliminated from the World Baseball Classic thanks to a disappointing, disheartening, and soul-crushing 6-2 setback to Frank Catalanotto and the Italians Monday night at Rogers Centre. That means two things. One, Italy will take on Venezuela at 5:00 p.m. EDT today to determine who will join the U.S. in advancing to Round 2 and two, Scott Richmond doesn't get to throw a pitch for Canada for the second straight tournament.
- Adam Dunn, not the most popular player in these parts, came to Toronto as a late addition to the U.S. team and homered to provide the American margin of victory in a 7-6 win over the hometown Team Canada.
- It was (har!) a "Dutch treat" as The Netherlands -- The Netherlands! -- nipped the heavily-favored Dominican Republic, 3-2 as Sidney Ponson outdueled Edinson Volquez.
- In a few somewhat less competitive games, Venezuela beat Italy 7-0; Puerto Rico knocked off Panama, also 7-0; China beat Chinese Taipei, 4-1; and Japan blew out Korea, 14-2.
