You remember that Simpsons scene when Homer, Bart and Lisa are celebrating in the car after Church, "Its the best time of the week - the longest possible time to more Church!".  That's always how I feel when a Yankee series ends, the Jays don't see them again now until the last series before the All Star Break. 

After an off day it's a good time to look at the draft.

Hey, maybe that's why teams bring in their closer in the ninth with a three run lead.

Doc was dominant again last night, out lasting Rich Harden and going 8 Innings while giving up just one run.  A lil bit of offense from Stewart and Rios was all that was needed to wrap up a 2-1 win and move within 4 games of Tampa bat and 2.5 of Boston.

15 days and 11 stadia later, I'm on my way home to sunny Ontario. What may await me in the world of baseball upon my return?

Jays win 7-2 to complete a 4 game sweep of the Royals.

Off to the west coast, beginning with the A's. So is the hot streak a result of a bad team or the sign of good things to come?

... and on the 55th day, they passed Baltimore. Maybe for good. Maybe not.

Ho hum. The Jays show what they can do with a couple of timely hits and pull out the finale against the Angels, 4-3. The Jays allowed only 10 runs during the three game set, but of course its the Jays so they scored only 7 and won just once.

Same old, same old.

It's an off-day for the Blue Jays, who open a homestand against the Angels tomorrow.

Anyway, I was watching a House re-run last night (Hugh Laurie is a Living God, and has been ever since Fry and Laurie) - and what happens at the end of the episode? Why, Dr Wilson curls up on his couch with either the 1987 or 1988 edition of the Bill James Baseball Abstract. Cool!

The Jays win their third straight beating the Twins 6 - 5.

I've noticed that esteemed Bauxite emeritus Craig Burley, will from time to time discuss field managers in terms of their bloodlines. Like horses. Which makes sense, even if they don't actually shoot managers. But as we seem to have been talking about General Managers a fair bit lately, I thought I'd carry on in a similar vein.
